When I came to NJ from PR my friend was able to find me a studio apartment and work with him right away as I got there.. but I didn't have a bed, sofa, TV, appliances, etc.... For the first 2 weeks I slept in the floor on a twin size mattress my friend gave me.. I ate at his house. He helped me alot but I also needed my own space and I started to feel like I was disturbing them.. so I decided to go to rent a center and was able to furnish my studio slowly.. yes I ended up paying alot more for the things.. but while I was working and paying for the stuff I could enjoy it and not have to sleep on the floor for a few weeks and not being able to cook your food for a few weeks because you are saving the money for it.. not everybody should get it but for some is very convenient and helpful..

Exactly I currently work for them with the rac acceptance part and its ridiculous that these people are paying three times more than what the items cost. Another huge issue is customers were not explained the contract right. Thats y they stop paying because they figure out the scam...
@fackidiots9407
@fackidiots9407 9 жыл бұрын
I hope you were fired. The contract is not a scam. It states that you are renting merchandise, you pay for this rental. You don't pay (because you don't own the merchandise unless it's payed off) and you lose it. It's the same idea as a loan for a car. Do you keep your car if you don't pay? The correct answer is no. Repo. You don't pay for the power, you can't see in the dark huh? Right? Power goes off genius. Smarty pants. And if you are saying they didn't know the terms of the contract, and you work at RAC Acceptance, guess what genius... You didn't go over the terms!!! That's your fault genius. *facepalm*
@conservakid85
@conservakid85 9 жыл бұрын
Fack Idiots The contract is not a scam in the sense that no one is holding a gun to their head forcing them to agree to the rental terms, however, it is really bad deal and financially stupid. Anyone that owns a calculator and has the ability to logic and reason can see this. The problem is low income folks do not want to sacrifice and go without in the short term to save and buy the items outright for much less money. I knew a friend that furnished his apartment with furniture with RAC and said to me, "Without RAC I would have never been able to afford this nice furniture." He was only half correct. He wouldn't have been able to afford that nice furniture that day but if he would saved his money by paying himself the monthly payments and settling with second hand furniture for six months to a year he would have been able to slowly acquire nicer furniture and pay much less in the process.

Why is Rent-A-Center a scam? People who rent from them typically have low credit scores and consequently are high risk and so are charged a high APR that is paid out in monthly installments. That is how the credit system works in the USA. And Rent-A-Center is very upfront about its charges.
@conservakid85
@conservakid85 9 жыл бұрын
Anyone who owns a calculator and can reason and utilize logic can see that it's a rip off. While they aren't scamming anyone or try to be intentionally deceptive they do prey upon those who are not money savvy and those too impatient to save and buy the item when they can afford to. In the grand scheme they aren't helping low income people or people with bad credit. They are enabling the same destructive money decisions that leave people broke. With that said they have every right to run their business as they see fit and people have every right to be poor money managers but let's call a spade a spade.

+Nikki A You don't have to be well versed in legalese and you don't have to have a large income or an expensive education to have common sense. Whenever you see a lot of fine print the deal is often too good to be true and there is a catch. Common sense would be to say that it is a bad deal and to walk away.

its a scam if you go ahead and pay the long term agreement which can be up to double the price. I would recomment you pay it of in 3 months which is same as cash prize. I just bought a living room set for $960. Its nice but probably not the best quality. And everyone is pre-aprove, they don't check for credit, all they check is your address, and job. They make sure you actually have a source of income. I read reviews about their brand "Ashley" and apperantly it SUCKS. That's my only concern.

I have never rented from RAC, but I have walked into their stores to see if they had any good "cash" deals as they do sometimes. I have noticed that RACs put how much the weekly payment on an information called and it even states who much the customer will pay after all the payments. I have seen this in a few states so I am not sure if its a law or if that's everywhere. It does giver a person a chance to gain material things but, the interest is higher than a credit card. I'd rather get a credit card and charge that is if I qualified.

Yeah, most of the people buying this shit are poor broke ass baby factories. Instead of buying shit needed for the family, they’re sinking money into a 70” tv that will cost them 5k+ in the long run. And that’s if it doesn’t get repo’d or they run off.

Hey man, you are so right I used to do the rent to own think when I was younger. Then I started thinking about how much I was really paying.and it's not their fault but they just take advantage of our impatience.instead of saving that 60 dollars a week until we have enough to buy what we want we'll pay more to get it now. What's sad is I've noticed that we ( blacks) don't teach our kids about saving or using our money. And since we were poor already and we believe having this stuff ( tv's, nice living room sets etc.) increases our status we'll pay out the nose, to what I call have the appearance of wealth. Like when they put $ 5000.00 rims on a car worth 2000. With no A/C. They'll pay 200. Dollars for shoes but will put used tires on their car. We gotta wake up if they gave some of us a lot of money most will wind up broke again. Sorry the post was so long Keep preaching bro someone is listening.

I agree bad deal. Aarons sales and lease is also a bad deal but they have 120 days same as cash and price match it only helps if you can pay it off 100% in 120 days though, I worked for Aarons several years that is the only way you can get a good deal from rent to own lol.. most people fall short on 120 days sadly...

maybe you should pay your bill on time and your phone won't get locked!! and rent a center does over charge a little bit on their totals cost of the items but we do have sales that knocks down the prices and if you know the right person that works at rent a center you can get good deals. I grew up having my mom get our beds couches and washer and dryers from rent a center so working For rent a center makes me want to get my customers good affordable deals !!! so rent a center isn't that bad like the way you make it seem because people might not have $500+ dollars to drop down on a laptop or TV and what if the customer wants a new sofa and love I'm pretty sure they don't want hand me downs from the salvation army. Do research on Conn's and rooms to go and Ashley and see if rent a center is still a bad place

We as a society may not have the privileges as some that have good credit. Whether it be our parents didn't teach us or may be a ugly divorce. Sometimes we may believe we have bad credit because we never had the opportunity to establish good credit. We then visit places that will finance us with high rates. Then you ask why then do they offer opportunities at high interest. Well they have to protect themselves also. Whether a consumer has been dealt the short end of the straw or they are really irresponsible with their money. Just because someone may be poor doesn't mean they have to look poor. What other suggestions would one have to assist us with out the high interest. Best believe that everyone isn't getting their furniture repoed. They are paying in full.

Bill Paulk “just because someone is poor doesn’t mean they have to look poor”. Yep...this is what RAC is for. Letting poor broke ass fucks look like big ballers....until you realize the huge tv is already outdated by 5 years, yet they still owe a grand on it. The laptop...you guessed it...3 years outdated...still owe hundreds. Oh and that new shitty Samsung phone...yep....will end up paying double, maybe even triple and when’s it finally paid off, they’ll be three models ahead. RAC WILL ALWAYS MAKE THE POOR CONTINUE TO BE POOR

Go rent it. Just dont make any payments. About the time they come to get it. sell it. And go rent another somewhere else. They cant put you in jail over it. When they call, Just say someone stoled it. It's not going to hurt you worthless credit anyway. That's what rental centers are there for. The poor.

They wont do that. I've worked for them. All we did was send out "We will take you to court notice letters" which actually meant nothing. Takes too much time and company money just to go to court to ask for a tv that only has a value of $130 left on it. Waste of time.

there are people who can't afford to drop $4-500 dollars for a couch so you rent to own, yes you will pay a lot more in the end but rent a center makes payments affordable based on your pay cycle.

Salvation Army and other resell outlets have great prices where you can own AND continue to save. We need to learn "delayed gratification" as a common practice. If an item isn't an immediate need...we need to wait until we can afford.

"we" need to stop telling people how to live their lives Ryan Mack and mind our own business...If someone knows the deal accepts the apr then what is it to you if they go this route? Ya they pay more but they choose to do it. as it was said above if people can't afford 500 couch (which is pretty cheap) you rent to own something new not something recycled from a thrift store. and maybe your outlook on life is just a little bit better. it will take someone making minimum wage paying for rent, food, power, kids, car, gas, and life and eternity to save and buy a new couch. cut people who choose this path a fucking break damn

The state their charges upfront. They do not lie about the interest due. If one thinks that these charges are unreasonable then one should not purchase from these places in the first place. Look up the definition of scam. A scam would be stating one price then charging you another. And swearing at someone who will not see this and cannot reply does not make your opinion right or make you seem mature.

The thing is people you are paying more. Even if you financed anywhere else you always pay more then cash price. Thing is with rent a center or Aaron's they dont push insurance down your throat its included. They dont push the 150 delivery fee it's free so after said and done there no optional it's the same price as anywhere else. What sets them apart from others is what if you lose a job and cant make a payment the dont report it they simply come get and that's it. They just take it back and you have no hard credit hit your credit is safe. Other places will come get it and report you.
@conservakid85
@conservakid85 6 жыл бұрын
Not necessarily. If you have even a mediocre credit score there are plenty of furniture/electronics/appliance stores where you can get interest free financing for 12-60 months (depending on the amount purchased). If you have bad credit or no credit then you will have to pay in cash. In this case buying second hand or not buying at all if its merely a want not a need is always a better choice than rent-to-own stores like Aarons or RAC.
