2:45 that's a crash bar, for when the car's only hit 1/4 of the front end (small overlap), it is attached to the lower control arm mount, so when the car crashes, it'll turn the wheel and get pushed out instead of into the passenger compartment. fun fact: When the IIHS introduced this new small overlap crash test on the driver's side, VW failed spectacularly, so VW actually installed a stiffener to finally pass the test. Then IIHS crashed the passenger side, and it failed again... VW didn't bother to stiffen both sides because they only wanted to pass the test which at that time was driver side only. VW may not care about your life, but at least they care about crash ratings :\

Man vw had a good thing going for a while with the diesel sedan segment but they fucked up the whole us north american small car import so now the f31 328d was the last diesel No more MB diesel or any other import diesel Although true cause was probably the oppressive diesel regs set by epa

I'm local to Phoenix... interested who will dip the body. Could you weigh the body before and after the dip? Interesting to see how much all that seam sealer weighs + plus whatever metal(?) gets stripped. Isn't these later model cars already have very thin chassis components? Weigh all the harnesses not going back in(?). Super stoked on your project. You and Quickshift.tv, with their V12 TT Supra project... about the most interesting projects on You Tube right now... but you'll probably be done years before they are, LOL! Good Luck on the build... will be epic.

With how many people do this, car manufactures should just have a race chassis option. Saves them the wasted labor on building the car, saves shops and teams time taking it all back out. Lower over head. Can probably charge a small premium for extra profit margin. Help the teams, help the factory.

probably stitchwelding the seams and with the full rollcage integrating front and rear strut-tops

@@wietvrouw well rollcage stiffens the whole car up. But the clue is there to replace the need for spotwelds when you take the clue out you lose the strength of the seams. If you stichweld the seams you lose the whole purpose of making the car ligther.

Acid dipping a new car seems quite extreme, is it common when prepping road cars for racing? I saw Papadakis racing did it too. I understand it might save some weight and the car can be seam welded etc after but I can't comprehend how you can be sure the acid stripping and protective coatings will be 100% coverage and all chemcial stuff drained out the chassis and seams after? Seems like a big risk for the longevity when it is already a brand new car, but I guess with what it will be used for longevity and looking 100% perfect probably isn't the goal?
@RyanTuerck4 жыл бұрын
It's not as extreme as you are thinking. It's a liquid so it all drains out and dries pretty quickly. The benefits are huge in helping the fabrication side.
@TheRZBM4 жыл бұрын
@@RyanTuerck will you be showing the process in depth? Reading up online it seems like one of those topics where people argue endlessly about what is the better method to take when restoring a car. Looks like lots of people say its impossible to get all the chemicals out the enclosed panels and it will seep out for weeks/months/years after. I am interested to see what it does on a brand new chassis and what you do to it after!
