When I record my podcast episodes I usually have one if not two co-hosts in the studio with me. Of course that requires three pairs of headphones to monitor the mix going on. I use Sony MDR-7506 headphones for everyone and I love them. They are awesome recording studio headphones.
When I first started podcasting I did not have the Behringer HA4700 Headphone Amplifier. Due to a very tight budget I juts used two headphone splitters right out of the mixer headphone jack. I made split to my three pairs of headphones, but we all had to listen at the same sound level. Now, you can certainly do it this way and you certainly don't need this piece of equipment.
However, if you get larger and expand you may want to consider the Behringer HA4700. I now have the HA4700 in my podcast studio and I am loving it. It allows me to send a different volume levels to each pair of headphones. It is a 4-channel, so I can have up to 4 pairs of headphones that can all be set to a different listening level.
Check the video out above on how to hook up and use the Behringer HA4700 Headphone Amplifier
And you can adjust the bass, treble, and balance separate for each pair of headphones, which makes for a very quality sound. There is a master volume button that you could turn everyone's volume up or down with if needed.
You can also run the headphones out the front on each bank or out the back. The way my podcast studio is set up I run my headphones out the front to where I sit and the other two out the back to my co-hosts. I have the Behringer HA4700 in my frame rack right above my Behringer MDX4600 Compressor/Limiter/Gate and it fits nicely.
So, if you want to ramp things up a bit with your podcast studio then I strongly suggest the Behringer HA4700 Headphone Amplifier and I don't think you will be disappointed.

A way for someone to use this in a non podcast application for individual mixes while recording music is to take Aux Out feeds from a mixer(TRS balanced 1/4') into the direct in of each channel on HA4700. This way you can give up to four ppl their own tailored headphone mix by adjusting the aux 1-4(or however many aux channels your mixer has)pots to put exactly which instrument in your ears and at the exact right level you want. Everyone is happy. And that makes for a good recording.

Would this be applicable toward an audio interface, such as the scarlett 18i20? Just put the quarter inch into one of the headphone inputs on the interface and follow course?

I have one that is over 10 years old. Do you know where I can get it serviced? I have a bad input control knob, and the headphone output of the 2nd channel is faulty. The Behringer website isn't very helpful with service centers.

Good video! I have a problem with my unit. Everything comes out in mono. I wonder if my HA4700 is toasted. It's like there is a global mono mode switched on. Never mind. The 1/8 to 1/4 adaptor works with 1/8 TRS only. The headphones with additional prong for microphone don't work - they short out the channels LOL

Nice vid, But. there are a few ways to do it, the best way is to feed the main input with main mix, then re rout your aux out from mixer to direct input. plug in, all head phones. turn the main mix dail up, and ajust the aux/main mix dail to tast and that way you hear what you want. you could also use front and back phone output handy for backing singers and spilting the lead vox out to in put for backing singer works great to, vox and two backing. but still good vid clear understanding

I would like to inquire whether the headphone amplifier signal from the front panel "Phones Out" function can be to share studio monitor? The control room would like to hear the anechoic chamber musical people, but in turn he hear me in the headphones. In addition, "Main Out" LR section on the rear panel jack using a stereo cable must csatlakozatni the mixing console in the "Phones" out output? Thank you in advance for your answer.

Oh boy Josue, I can't tell you how I don't like to hear that. I had a humm noise a couple months ago in my studio. I had to completely gut everything and start from scratch. It can be a bunch of things and it is a process of elimination. I finally found out is was just one of my computers, but the others were fine. Sorry and good luck.

So you're plugging headphones in the back of the unit but in the next step are plugging them into a headphone out on the front. ??? Are the identical I/O slots just one in front and one in back? What the benefit of that?

Hi, I kind of think that the main input in the HA4700 is a balanced mix. The aux inputs add an individual signal to the main mix for that particular channel, and the balance (when there is an aux signal) adjusts the volume of the aux in that channel. So, in the case of a podcast (and I am really unfamiliar with these standards), if all three mics are mixed together, but one of the people being interviewed wants his/her particular voice controlled individually, he/she would send that signal into their headphone channel aux and they would be able to mix their voice louder or quieter, as desired via the balance. In music, I believe it can be used similarly for monitoring, on top of the main mix coming in, via the aux channel.

yes. you'd run your aux mixes into the aux ins.

What about impedance matching and minimum load per channel? What about the auxillary input to blend in with the main mix, which is what the balance control is for. The input level is a gain control to optimise the input level, not a volume control for the whole unit!!

On the front there is a 1/4 inch TRRS that all the banks will hear. Each individual bank also has a 1/4 inch TRRS input, to separate things. On the back there is of course the L & R 1/4 inch TRS main in, which I have hooked up. You could also go in with a secondary course on the "main in" on the back via an XLR connection.
