A better way to splice into the factory wiring would be not to cut the wire. You remove a piece of the wire sheathing, split the wire apart, and run the new wire thru and wrap it around. You then use solder the connection and use water proof wrap tape.
@spanky5226 жыл бұрын
In regards to what antenna to use, I just used an old car antenna cable about 6" long and soldered a 2 ft. piece of insulated copper wire to the positive side of it (the center, not the outside if the cable, that is the ground) It's just routed around the inside of the fairing and picks up radio stations from over 60 miles away, so I figure it works pretty well for what it is. There may be better ones out there, but for what I have, it works perfect.

I mounted a batwing on my VTX 1800c & went with the BOSS marine stereo & speaker system with amp & the head cover, it’s water proof & has a UV protective coating for those days you can’t find any shade to park under. The marine stereo systems I think are better for this type of application simply because you never know when you might hit rain & why take the chance???

One VERY important point not made here is that you have to have SHALLOW speakers because the Batwing does not have much depth and you also need slimline grills. standard gills will extend past the bottom of the Batwing. I have had to do a lot of fabricating on the bottom portion of the speaker to fit.

This video is so helpful, thanks! I'm curious though. Wont the stereo bounce around with just that bracket holding it? Seems like maybe a piece of foam or insulation wedged in there to steady it might help. What are your thoughts on that? Again, thanks so much for putting this together.

Depends on your bikes excess electric abilities. First thing you need to do is find out what size fuses are in your ride and what's not being used. Not all bikes can handle the same demands. It does take some time to learn, but you can and you can do it relatively easy! There's allot of videos that explain everything you'll need to know. And the best part is, once you know this stuff, you'll NEVER be misguided again and pretty much be able to effectively investigate and answer your own questions! Happy adventuring!

I bought a bat wing for my 2005 Yamaha Rd. star 1700 and the stereo opening is very large. It is 5 inches wide by 9 inches long takes for 4 x 5“ speakers but when I bought a stereo for it the hole in the bat wing is too big. And the speaker holes will not accommodate a 4 x 5” speaker because the holes are about a half inch too big what would you recommend to install a marine stereo with four speakers with 6 inch speakers and what adapters would I need to make the stereo fit a hoe.

When I put a batwing with a radio on my VTX I used a marine dipole antenna, plugged it into the radio then hot glued the legs of the antenna along the inside of the back half of the batwing. So far the radio reception is good and the hot glue has held nicely. Search the words AM FM dipole antenna It looks like a capital letter T with a plug for automotive radios. Sold on Amazon or eBay or marine supply stores.

At timing 4:50, how can I find the hot connecting wire for Harley Davidson Dyna? At timing 17:00, is it the yellow wire is to provide continue power to the stereo when the bike is switch off? So that when switch on the bike again, the stereo can remember the last setting or the clock timing, is it? Why don't stereo has a small battery similar like the one in the motherboard, or a memory chip, that will remember the last setting? When I change the battery every time, the last memory will be gone too... And does the continue power draw a lot of battery juice when the bike is switch?

So this may be a stupid question but I am totally new to this. If you cut the wire and butt splice in the new wire (the wire that goes to the stereo) won't whatever was connected in the first place not work anymore? As in if you disconnect whatever was originally connected on the wire from the battery and use that wire to connect the stereo to the battery, than won't whatever was originally connected to the battery just be disconnected? And therefore unpowered because it's no longer connected to the battery the stereo is. Unless maybe you can put both those wires into the one butt connector so you've got battery power to the butt connector and then power from the butt connector to both the stereo and the original connection. If that's possible and that's what you guys did I must have either missed it or misunderstood.

your last guess is correct, they cut the red wire from the battery then twisted the radio wire to one side then but connected them back together so that red wire from the battery now powers the radio and the original connection.

What threw me off is when you accidentally let go of the positive battery wire and was going to plug to the negative

I'm having a problem with my wiring, I got my positive and ground connected to the battery and the negative, stereo is on but now it doesnt turn off! I thought it would turn on and off with the ignition
@IronMike834 жыл бұрын
You have to also connect it to a switch wire. For it to go off and on with the key.

The wire used for ground, trigger and 12v
@antbanks41949 жыл бұрын
I was thinking of using a set of the battery tender wires for the +12v and ground. Then adding single wire for trigger. Do you think this would be okay to do. The+12v woukd have a in line fuse
