I've had my Decent for about 5 years and just love it. First class company and they don't forget about you after you the sale. My coffee experimenting is over as I've gone through the light roast phase and tried out many of the recipes. Nowadays, I'm using a modified blooming espresso recipe that yields a large amount of coffee which I top with a little hot water for my Americano of choice. I can go to a cold machine and be done in less than 5 minutes. Unscrewed the little helper handle when I got the machine and never reattached it and I'm still on my first head gasket! Never use the hot water outlet as it leads to refilling too often. I still heat water in a pan! The new machine price of $6,000 is shocking and I won't be upgrading. In fact, if my machine dies and can't be repaired(highly doubtful), I would be inclined to go somewhere else because $6000 is just outrageous. Won't happen of course! The Decent has satisfied and simplified my coffee needs which were never very exotic anyway. I'm simply an Americano guy, never use the steam wand and buy the same blend from my roaster for over three years now. Just a regular, boring and happy americano lover!

Decent DE1PRO has the same functionality especially compared to 110v bengle, a vibratory pump, same software and can be fitted with a 3 hole steam wand tip, water tank cover and a larger tablet for almost 60% of the bengle price. also last I checked the thermometer probe is not on the end of the steam wand. It is a separate hard wired thermometer clipped adjacently to the steam wand. I think it is a mistake to call the bengle best value for buck. it is a quality of life upgrade over the DE1PRO with improvements, many of which de1pro owners can already install. Now I would call this machine a real upgrade if they increase the max fill rate. In my opinion, decent is too focused on filling a price bracket to compete than actually improving their product.
@svenmueller4 ай бұрын
The vibratory pump is driven differently in the Bengle, resulting (as they claim, I have no way to confirm or deny) in less noise and better control. IIUC, it's not possible to retrofit that into the DE1PRO. You are right about the temp probe. And you are right that it is - to a large extend - mainly a bunch of quality of life improvements, especially with the built-in scale and the temperature probe. The user facing software is largely the same, but e.g. there is no way to connect a good-enough temp probe to the DE1PRO (or it's tablet/software). Max fill rate is roughly the same, but steaming power on the 220V/230V model is definitely higher than on the DE1PRO XL (it's about the same as on the few XXLs they made). The new tip on the steam wand is nice, as is the actual cool-touch all around steam wand (including where it goes into the machine, unlike on the DE1PRO) which is a safety improvement. The ability to attach the tablet via a cable not just for charging but also for the control flow is nice, too, as it makes it (slightly) more reliable in electronically busy environments. It's certainly not a machine for everyone and I hope that at least the steam tip, the different use of the pumps and maybe, eventually, the new steam wand in its entirety make it to a future variant of the DE1. That said, I'll most likely buy a Bengle when it becomes available. I'd prefer a black body with light wood, but the white body also fits decently well into my coffee station. And I really want the built-in scale and the cool touch steam wand in particular.

if you can afford it, it’s definitely a nice addition. In my situation (110v), I don't see enough of a "real upgrade" that justifies selling the DE1pro and spending over 3k (likely more if they start selling refurbished units from their trade-in) to get the Bengle, unless they significantly increase the fill rate over what I have. The pump noise doesn't bother me at all; it actually helped me realize something was wrong when the flush valve wasn’t working properly because the pump noise was different from what I’m used to. If you haven't tried the DSX2 theme, I highly recommend it. You can set your milk pitcher’s weight and calibrate the steaming temperature by time, so you don't need a thermometer if you weigh the milk. I haven't used a thermometer in ages, and it gets the steaming temps just right for me. I also like the black color and hope they introduce it in future iterations. Right now, I see the price point as an attempt to fill a price bracket and compete against more expensive machines rather than providing value through innovation or performance over the existing line. Titles like "mind-blowing" and making it seem like a real upgrade for the money is where I disagree with the KZbinr's sales pitch. For the cost, I recommend DE1pro and high end grinder. You will have the same software, most likely the same extraction ability(if they don't increase fill rate) and better coffee with good grinder.
@svenmueller4 ай бұрын
@@DR19X totally understandable. Yeah, I agree that it's not mind-blowing, compared to the DE1. Compared to single head machines in the same price range, it still is, but the DE1 costs about half and has most of the same features especially on 110V. I know about DSX skin and I'm streaming just fine without it or a thermometer, just by being consistent with the amount of milk, I'm pretty much spot on all the time, for both amounts I use (ok, it auto stops on the higher amount). Anyhow, the Bengle isn't for everyone. And frankly, if someone wouldn't be interested in the different profiles, they might be better off with a more traditional machine. And for those who want to play with profiles, the DE1 is often the better choice. I'd compare the choice to choosing between a Miata (aka MX5) and a Porsche. Both are fun sports cars, one is significantly more expensive and a bit better, but for many, the cheaper choice makes a lot more sense. Especially when you actually have a speed limit on highways (or a lower voltage). 😜

It may not be mind blowing if you already have a De1xl but to the gen pop and those who have never seen a Decent, I definitely think it is. And let's recognise how much Decent is actually driving innovation in the coffee world. What other company has a full drip tray scale? Or a thermometer steamwand?

LED lights are inexpensive and no big deal. Cup warmer on top is also no big deal, found on even cheap machines. Integrated scale is fantastic and the main improvement. Quieter pump is a welcome change, but how much more should that alone cost? Improvements to DE1 (water tray issues, no lid and lifting front intake) shouldn’t cost and should have been on the DE1. Tablet is also not a big deal (do I really need an 11” screen for my espresso machine? It’s only a $200 item.) At $6000, the price is ridiculous! The DE1 needs to drop to $2000, and the Bengle needs to be $4000-4500 max.

I'll likely get one as there's nothing that comes close for accuracy, transportability and appreciate the tech compared to my You, but I wish it had a more desirable/sexy look for high-end modern kitchens. Oh it's all premium metal and timber, believe me. It might look like plastic in the images but the whole body is powder coated ss albeit a few parts that might be silicone. I haven't seen the Bengle in person, but I have the De1XL and it is premium look and feel, anyone who sees it and uses it agrees and I can only imagine the Bengle is very close to the SR You in feel too. Absolutely right that nothing comes close to it in terms of accuracy, tech, versatility and transportability.

You are way more flexible on pouring different kind of coffee with a decent. There is a bit of a learning curve here as the decent basically gives you full control over all kind of parameters on how a shot is pulled. No other machine on the market is able to do that currently. Maybe the You comes into the range here - with an even higher pricetag. The de1 is already perfect and a lot cheaper than the upcoming Bengle... Ok, some fancy lightning and the embedded scale are missing though. With the classic machine concepts like the Micra - you can just pull the shot. No way non changing anything beside the temperature (which is probably not even measured on top of the puck). No pressure profiling, no stop on weight (ok, if you by the 400$ "special" Lunar)...

Ryde, Can you review the meticulous. I’ve poured my money into that kickstarter and none of use backers know wtf is happening.
@Rydecoffeecoach5 ай бұрын
Yes I debated whether to back it or not. In the end, I opted not to because of the high tech and the risk that another company would beat them to market. I've had it happen in the past on Kickstarter with Tech projects because it all moves so fast. I think they will get there but there may be delays. I can definitely do a video about it if I can find the time. 🤞👌
@DaneButler4 ай бұрын
Carlos still has been updating every month, I am a backer too however I expect delays because project timelines in theory and real world are always two different things and if its your first project, you don't know the unknown unknowns (i.e. how much lead time on interdependent tasks, etc). Kickstarters are notorious for always being late. Last update was the plastic moulds are done, a few of the staff from Mexico are now in China setting up the assembly line. They have a project timeline breakdown with a full gantt chart, testing phase begins in 1 week, pre-certification process is slated for start of October and Pilot batch manufacturing (the first 250 machines) at the start of November. As for Ryd doing a review, when mine finally arrives, plan is for him to borrow mine. I still am quietly confident they will deliver. The delays have been disappointing to me as well, but I pretty much expected it.
