Using Rye as a decoy protagonist was genius and cruel. Genius because they took the time to make him likeable, was distracted by something supernatural and got killed by a faceless nobody. Cruel because his story would've been way more interesting than Ed and Peggy. But it's both because he survived, giving us false hope that he'd be around, just to get killed by Ed
