89613 health can we take down this mighty snake with such massive amount of health?
Summary
Phase 1
I backed Rykard into certain section of the wall, as he constantly runs backards away from you, if you get him stuck against a certain wall, he has nowhere to back away too, I then would focus on punching him in the head for the majority of phase 1. If you can get him in this spot he tends to favor just running away backwards and hardly attacks you, if you stay near his out stretched head, he doesn't seem to attack a lot. He will do a spin attack after a while which you can block or run away from. If you mostly hug his head and body he won't really do his head earthquake move, rarely shoot poison, and also only bite you if you are slightly in front of his head by a little bit.
Phase 2
Hardest part of the fight first phase of Phase 2, he runs away backwards and shoots fire rancors at you which hom in on you. You can block the rancors with a fire shield, you can run or roll away when you notice the fire trail is near you, or wait long enough until the rancor finally fades away then deliever some hits. He also has very awkward hit boxes, when it feels like your hitting him it often doesn't connect. I ran around his right side and focused on attacking his right leg, as the hit boxes seemed to connect more as opposed to his main body, he also takes the same amount of damage as his head. If you aim for his head, legs, or arms you will be doing between 12 - 20 (Last Rites Buff) damage, if you aim for his main body its about 8 - 12 (Last Rites Buff) damage. Golden epitaph
I find the best times to punish him are when he shoots a rancor out of his mouth, you have a few seconds to punch his leg. Another time is when he starts summoning the huge swarm of fire rancor's. When he is casting the move you have a few seconds to punch him in leg once again. After about 6 - 8 punches run directly behind him and not in front of him. He will slowly try turn around, if you run behind, so you have time to evade his melee sword attacks. If you are in front of him If he hits you with his sword during the rancor storm he can essentially hit you stun you and leave you vulnerable to get swarmed by his rancors.
Second phase 2 of his Phase 2 happens when you get his health around 30% - 40% , he switch's to a more aggressive approach. This is actually the easiest part of the fight in my opinion. In this phase he actually runs directly at you and pushes you backwards, as opposed to his usual running away backwards. If you hug his body his sword swings and snake bites go right over your head, while this happens you can deliver a ton of punches on him safely. He tends to favor snake bites the most and uses them constantly, he doesn't try to use his rancors as much in this phase.
He sometimes shoots two rancors but Rykard will sometimes often pushes you pretty far across the map that you end up dodging rancors, he unintentionally helps you evade them. You can also try to dodge the trails of fire, or use flame protect me or flame fortification for defense. He has a jump attack but you can block it, roll through it, or run a few feet away from him so his attack won't reach you. If you can get him in the second phase of his Phase 2 I think you have won the fight. So hug him, hit him, block or dodge when he jumps, and dodge the 2 rancors, or buff your fire defense and tank them.
I have made my own rule or penalty that if you accidently hit any boss with a weapon that is not your bare fist, you have to heal there hit points back with a warming stone, you have to heal more health then you dealt. So if you hit them with the golden epitaph by accident for 100 damage you have to heal back 200 hits points or more. So if you hit them without your bare fist, it basically mean that it heals them, they receive more health then what you initially dealt. In a fight that lasts hours on end, I personally don't feel like restarting the entire fight, because of an accident. So if you make mistake heal back more then you dealt. You just need to watch there health bar fill up overtime to ensure you did it right. When there health is around there letters its a lot easier to tell.
Inspiration
I watched a few bare fist challenge runners complete the game, but they always seemed to skip Rykard for various reasons "he would take to long" "The constant lava damage would kill you eventually"" "He's not worth it since he isn't required" "he has way to much hits points he would take forever" Stuff like that. Which does happen to all be true to an extent. Oddly enough I have seen a few bare fist Malenia video's, but still no Rykard.
I wanted to test and see if this was possible. With his health at a staggering 89,613, he has the most hit points of any boss. There is Furnace Golem who has 160000 hps but that is an enemy, and not a boss. I plan on also defeating that Furnace Golem on my bare fist journey.
