Thanks for the videos you posted showing how you converted your Ryobi mower to lithium batteries. They were very helpful when I upgraded my Ryobi RM300e to lithium batteries. It's a smaller mower and I used four 50 amp/hour batteries but electrically it's the same as yours. The new charger I got is the same as yours, too. After installing the new batteriesI got the mower going by just bypassing the relay that prevents the mower from starting when connected to the charger and I didn't worry about the green light not working. But after watching this video I put the relay back in the mower and added the wire to the third pin on the charger's plug. My mower has the charger port with the three screws and everything is working properly. The green light comes on when I plug in the charger and I can't start the mower if the charger is plugged in. This is safer than bypassing the relay since nobody will be able to accidentally drive off while the charger is connected. Also to be safe I tested the charger plug mod before adding a wire permanently by opening the shell and using a clip lead to bridge the + pin to the unused third pin. There was no heating or smoke.

I'm glad to hear the lithium upgrade and the green light mod worked for you. Simple and clean, and pretty satisfying! Thanks for letting me know that my videos were helpful. It means a lot to me.

I have a cub cadet RTZS and interested in doing this type conversion on my mower. Appreciate the caution you took with the update and for taking the hit and fixing your friends mower with your parts! Thanks for the run through.

Finally got to take the charging port to see what I have and I have the port without the screws. :-( Digging further, I noticed, the top pin is 3VDC from the original charger. So do you think a modification of sending a 3 VDC on the top pin might do the trick? What I can't figure out is when I plugged it in and measure the top pin from the other end of the port (where the wires comes out), the voltage on the top pin fluctuates (always less than 3 V).

I really can't say what could work. The info I used on my mod of the 3screw port came from a Ryobi service manual. And that clearly would fry your molded/no screw port.

I have watched all of your lithium swap videos and find them very helpful as I am considering the swap for my own. However, my model is the RY48ZTR75 and not the 100. Do you happen to know if there is any compatibility issue with using the same size batteries that you swapped over to? I wouldn't think there would be any issues with the changer swap, but am curious about this and any other components, just to be safe. I did discover that my current charge port is the molded one, so I would likely upgrade that to the latest (3-screw) version as well. Any assistance is much appreciated.

To be clear, I think the molded charge port is actually the newer version. I'm not sure. But we did successfully replace Jesse's molded port with the 3-screw port. There is no real problem converting the 75 to 100aH batteries. I helped my friend Jesse convert his 75 to the 100 batteries. The batteries are larger, but the battery trays are the same size. You need to adjust or remove the spacers on each end of the battery tray. I recall that we removed the front spacer and shortened the rear adjuster tray bolts. This also allows the long clamp bolt to still pass in between the batteries.

Hello, This is the vieo I have been serching for!. My question is did you take the pins off the origanal charger port and solder them to the after market P35 smart charger?. Because it doesnt seem like I can just swap the old origanal charger port "CASE" and insert the new smart charger pins? They do not fit. If I drilled a bit bigger I am sure it will work, just wanted to know what you had done?..Thanks for your video HUGE help!.

The P3648 lithium charger I ordered came with the triangular plug. I dismantled the P3648 plug and added the jumper wire (soldered). I did not use any pins or components from my old Ryobi charger.

Thanks. For clarity, you can use the charging port with new lithium charger, for either type of female plug in with screws or without as long as you dont try the green light mod? Is that correct.
@robertveldman19014 ай бұрын
Correct. The new lithium charger can be used with either style of charging port. I believe the green light mod can only be done to the "3 screw" charging port.

Thank you for all your very informative videos! Have you been able to find a wiring schematic? I have found the wiring diagram only. Thank you again.

I have looked, and have not found a schematic. Sorry!

Is it OK to use the charger as is without the green light coming on?
@robertveldman19014 ай бұрын
Yes. The charger will work fine without the green light or this mod. The only downside is that the mower can be driven away while plugged in. Best to leave the charger on your seat as a reminder to unplug before getting on.
