Doesn't take long to completely wear it out. I'm sure I've got under 50 hours on it and now it can't hardly cut a blade of grass without getting stuck and squealing. Yes I do lube the blades every time I take it out and yearly sharpen via file. I've only used it on brush, hedge, boxwood, blackberry; nothing harder than that. Nothing that doesn't fit into the blade spaces. Probably the output blade pinion assembly is shot/stripped already. No way really to maintain and lube that. This wasn't built for real use

YEARLY sharpen?... ok so we're not going to blame Ryobi on this one. Sounds more like hard abuse to me. If it wasn't made for "real use", they wouldn't have made it. Heck I have merely the same hours... works flawlessly. You can also maintain it, if you LOOK at your item you will see screws, that's how you maintain it. giving you the chance to really lube the internals and check them out. There are sites for replacement parts like the gears and other mechanic/electrical components of it.
