Thoughtful review. I appreciate that you had a first timer using it. How many videos have I seen an expert make something look easy, and then I try, and none of the issues I encounter are addressed by the expert?

Any good for a small retaining wall? Also is it any good for posts for a short wire fence, say 6metre with a galv gate, so two end posts and some intermediate warratah posts with a galv gate on one end . I just need to put in a fence to keep the chooks in and be able to get the ride-on through it. And put in a small retaining wall by my clothesline. Cheers

I'd love to see this go head to head with the Stihl BT45.
@OmniGarage

The BT45 (petrol variant) is a hi powered drilling tool aimed towards the commercial setting for mass digging. The RYOBI is a plant and digging tool used for digging small holes for plants. You don’t need a head to head.

I’m not sure sorry. Have only used this in soil. It possibly could work in soft clay.

What is a good supplementary tool to clear encountered obstacles - rocks / roots?
@OmniGarage
@OmniGarage 2 жыл бұрын
A spade might help you to remove rocks etc as this tool will stop when it hits something. Sometimes were you are digging is a bad spot and might want to try somewhere else…..or dig my hand.

A gas-powered auger.
@OmniGarage

@ Charles Eye that is a hefty machine and something you would need to dig bigger holes. This tool is more for digging smaller holes for plants etc.

@@OmniGarage My Harbor Freight one isn't really any bigger and I can use it with a 6" or 8" bit. It pulls out rocks and roots pretty well, as long as you ease it through. To be fair, it can also take you for a ride if you're not careful but I've taken out some pretty hefty rocks with it on full throttle by having a second person help weigh it down, too.

@Charles Eye I know what you mean by spinning you around. This one will do the same if your not careful!

@@roberthood7156 I think it's a janky site. I found the 18 volt for 84 ish but I never connected with the place. I'm not sure about the RPMs and torque specs but Ryobi makes a mud stirrer upper for drywall that looks just like a ground digger inner(industry terms)! If I don't have a massive brain fart I'll attempt to compare the two tools and see if they are one in the same or at least close enough to get the job done. I'll try to share my findings if you'd like. From reliable sources I believe the 18 volt is around 148.00 just tool not batt or charger. The 40 volt is about twice that.
@davidreynolds4684

@@roberthood7156 ok don't know where you're located but I'll assume you have home Depot. They have the 18 volt tool and 3 " auger for $149.00. Tool with battery charger and 3" auger for $189.00. they've got a 43cc gas auger with 6" auger for $149.99. Harbor freight has a gas 2 stroke 52 cc 320 rpm 45 lbs torque with a 6" x31" auger for $199.99 come with a predator engine. In regards to the 43cc home Depot auger in my opinion it's pretty small. In soft brown dirt or sand I'm sure it's fine but I've used these things for years and I think if you get into some hard dirt & rocky areas you're gonna find it won't get the job done. Alternately if you run across a 1/2 to 5/8 " chuck right angle drill at a pawnshop for a steal it's easy to fabricate a handle that will screw to the existing handles place to give you better leverage and keep from bruising your hips or breaking your wrists. You may need to manufacture an auger adaptor depending on what type you buy.

Can't believe people are actually impressed that this silly toy machine drills down six inches (if that) on your trials. Do you work for Ryobi? Try drilling down to a suitable depth level for posts.
@OmniGarage
@OmniGarage Жыл бұрын
This tool isn’t designed to drill down for the purpose of posts/footings. Hence why it’s called the planting and digging tool.

RYOBI’s website says 40 holes at 400mm on a 5.0 aH battery. Whether or not you can push the tool down to a deeper dept of 600mm I’m unsure about.

Remember this is a plant and digging tool. Primarily used for digging small holes for plants, shrubs and letter boxes. The small holes you see that we dug on the video is ideal for this tool. To dig holes for deep fence posts ect step it up to their post hole digger.
