I know I also went to pottery classes inspired by this video I went ahead and made all my tiles for my back splash in my kitchen I honed the process and repeated it producing multiple tiles by hand that really impressed my pottery tutor. This channel teaches me to pay attention to process and the rest will follow :)))

Most universities have classes in making pottery, in the arts department. I remember taking the class many decades ago. I liked the old fashioned kick wheel, not an electric powered one. In an empty peaceful pottery room, with the silence and the rhythm of the kickwheel controlled by one's own energy, it was like meditation.

You need to learn how to time your cooking. If it is overcooked at 4 minutes, next time try 3 minutes. Keep adjusting the time until you get it right.

I'm reminded of how pottery class always stereotyped as some boring couple activity, but this looks like really satisfying work. I really like to look of these plates, but I'd imagine they're not cheap, don't know if making them yourself is any cheaper or if it's just for the personal touch.

Hmm, depends on how deep the bowl will be. If beginners try to make a big salad bowl, you'll be in for a challenge. Start small, but the most challenging part of ceramics is centering. Even after you pat down the clay as round as you can, it will never be centered which is why you need to do that.

Beautiful work! Though I must admit, I'm a bit jealous of your little glaze ladle for painting the clay. When I took ceramics at my school, it was so messy with the glaze and it was difficult getting the stuff out of your nails even when you love working with clay! Great job, and you got a tasty-looking salad on top of that, too! ^^

I used tight latex gloves. Allergic to natural clay but it keeps your hands clean too.

I would never be able to make something as good as this. I don't have the patience, and there's nowhere in my town that has any kind of kiln. Though I did make a small vase jar thing with a flower-shaped lip in art class once. That's about as much as I've done with pottery.
