Interesting to see you not using the rear footstraps on a race board. Do you think you can still be decently competitive without them, or did you take them off just for the unique nature of the Lanzarote Challenge?

For upwind, downwind I am always more comfortable without back footstrap!

Nice to see that you're back on the water. What's special about boards for upwind/downwind? Extra width?

Thanks Doug. The width of the tail is very important in foil boards, the wider the tail is the more leverage you have to press on the foil and the more power you can generate, which is crucial for upwind downwind.

At 3:30 RYTIS JAS comments to Basile about a mishap with the foil the previous evening. On the Point 7 webpage it was written, "The night just before the race my foil got destroyed into the bridge of the harbour due to the high tide (my stupid mistake), so I had to borrow a foil from the organizer. This foil was a slalom foil setup with small fuselage, and I couldn’t go upwind in the light breeze " Was this because at high tide Basile could not see some concrete just below water level that would have been visible at low tide and so he sailed into it and hit the foil ? Also would have been interesting if a light wind slalom board had tried to keep up in the race but do you think they would have had to give up and be rescued in the light wind spots ?

nah, he just put the foil on a moving platform on the water under a bridge of sort and when the high tide came it got crushed

FOR BACKUP IF THE FIRSTE SET BREAKS !

Backup is a secondary reason. But in general I use a shorter set for upwind and a longer for reaching and downwind
