Awesome performance! To my ears more familiar with Carnatic Music, initial minute or so sounded like the the rhythm patterns played on Thavil, a South Indian percussion instrument (that accompanies nadaswaram - another South Indian wind instrument)

So much of percussion from across the length and breadth of Africa, specially west African and central African rhythms sound so similar to percussion from Kerela and Tamil Nadu like chenda, thavil, edakka, thimila, maddalam. Even the cadence of thimila and chenda are similar to djembe.
