Oh my god. This reminds me of how we’d all joke around when watching Power Rangers as kids, “why don’t they just take out a gun and shoot the monster ha ha ha”. My late father used to say that all the time, especially during really long henshin/roll call sequences. But… he actually did it. 😮

Nearly all Sentai teams had some type of standard issue sidearm in their arsenal, used to varying degrees of effectiveness. The Jetmen had the Bird Blasters, and later on Beak Smashers which they used in just about every episode and were in some cases powerful enough as a combined finisher against monsters. In other words, they liked guns a lot in this show. Zyuranger, the season that followed which was adapted into mighty morphin power rangers, really toned down the gunplay. While they carried a sidearm called the Ranger Stick which had both a gun mode and a blade mode, it was rarely used as a gun, and even got turned around against the user on multiple (most) occasions. My own speculation is that they were playing down the guns and even giving the impression that "guns = bad" in this series since it was aimed at a younger audience than its predecessor. Consider that with the adaptation into mighty morphin, a great deal of the Japanese footage was left on the cutting room floor and american shows have even stricter censorship, so those blasters were likely close to non existent in the power rangers version. But yea, shooting the monsters makes way more sense :D

I remember this episode - their inner personalities or desire or something were sort of brought out forcibly. Ryu's lazy, Kaori's the rich girl, Ako's the cry baby, Raita's the ladies man, and Gai is the 'leader'! That was a nice twist. XD
