It allows you to double jump (or is it triple?) right after a previous triple jump. Instead of the jumps resetting. In that level there was only enough room for a triple jump and Ryu couldn’t do one without a phantom. He couldn’t get over the spikes. Thus the level is unbeatable.

Yeah, a phantom jump is that you do the double/triple jump on the fourth/fifth jump. After they patched it you can't do it anymore so it starts with a normal jump again on the fourth jump.

For a more specific explanation, the phantom jump let a player do a triple jump, do one additional notmal jump, and then immediately do a triple jump again. Since it was removed, any levels that require you to do a triple jump twice in a row like that are now impossible.

For those of yall who don't know exactly what a phantom jump is, it was used in a lot of famous Japanese speedrun levels In the game. You would do a triple jump, and at the peak of the jump, you would quickly turn back and then forward, and when you land, you would think you'd have to do a double then triple jump, but you skip the first jump when you land and you can do the phantom jump

His older streams used the have $4.20 as the minimum to have the computer read out a donation message, which is some kind of reference to marijuana. One of his old 100-man videos has a comment where a guy lied to his wife about about where his kid picked up the F-word from Ryu because he wanted to keep watching it with his kid. He constantly makes a big deal of 69. Ryu is not naturally inclined to be family friendly.

Apparently, they cleared all of the levels that were made the first year that SMM1 came out (according to ThaBeast). The Team 0% Discord server is currently working on clearing all 2019 uncleared levels in SMM2 since that’s the year it came out. Both ThaBeast and Panga make videos about this series and it’s a blast to watch because as more and more levels get cleared, the leftover ones tend to be really challenging. It would be great if Ryu took on the challenge as well, but since he isn’t even doing Iron Bros, I don’t see him jumping on any trends or challenges. Even if it would be fun to watch.

In my personal opinion I feel like SMM1’s super expert no skip is way better than smm2 I think it’s that in SMM1 you have a goal and it’s satisfying to see you go for Princess Peach instead of just playing levels in SMM2. I love all your videos!!!

@Tim Bitten in some videos toward the end of 2021/ start of 2022 Ryu even tried to reintroduce artificially the 100 Mario challenge to SMM2 adding 100 lives while he was playing that game but even that failed miserably because there wasn't still any Princess Peach that he could rescue at the end so it wasn't the same for him and us, so eventually he got back to SMM1 to play again the 100 challenge in the only possible correct way 😅😂

He explained it in a much earlier video, back in the (original) Mario Maker 1 days. I cannot for the life of me find the video, but in it he did an indepth explanation, I believe with clips of people doing the trick. To explain it for you, a phantom jump was where you did a triple jump, then followed it with a normal jump, and then triple jumped again immediately after. Despite doing only a total of five jumps, you triple jumped twice, on the 3rd and 5th jumps. That's why levels which require that trick are now impossible.

I might be wrong but I'm 90% sure that the turtles don't "woke up" in MM1, it was a mechanic added in MM2, but Ryu knows more than me so I don't really know.

They absolutely do wake up in MM1. The difference is that if you put the turtle down and pick it back up in MM1, it resets the timer. So you can carry it an infinite distance as long as there's solid ground to stand and set it on.

So my Japanese is far from good, but what I can tell you is that the first word up there is 'Mario'. In the second word, I only recognize the first katakana, which is 're', or 'レ', but I do not recognize that second character, nor could I get a kanji translator to figure it out, so without that I have no idea what the second word says. You didn't actually explain what a Phantom Jump is. So here's an explanation: It's a trick that make you do a triple jump with only 2 jumps. Do perform it you you need to do a triple jump and, on the descent of the third jump, you flick the analog stick backward* and then forward again. It will count that as the first jump, hence the name phantom jump. After that you only need to do two real jumps to do the triple jump. *The opposite direction in which you were going.
