oda wrote some stories before one piece, i think it was called monster or monsters. he made ryuuma way before zoro and why he references him cutting a dragon in one piece.(this is the only one i ever "read" it wasnt translated for me so i just looked at it. i guess they finally animated them.

No Before One Piece was created there was a One shot manga called Monster made by Oda in witch Ryuma was the main character Oda bought Ryuma into One Piece and this was an offical OVA based of that manga

Its not. It was a backstory on ryuma, the guy zoro fought in the thriller bark arc. Definitely a good little movie tho, I'd recommend watching if you're interested.
