Why are the temps higher on the 7945hx though is it because the Scar 18 has bit better than cooling than the scar 17 or is the AMD just warmer?

Ryzen 9 7945HX is produced on 5nm and Intel i9 13980HX on 10nm, so there is more heat generated on a smaller die, that's why the AMD variant has higher temps, but comparable or even lower TDP on load. ASUS also applied Extreme Conductonaut Liquid Metal on AMD HX processors (only HX, no 3D extra L3 cache variant).

From my experience with this cpu the only problem is the idol power draw at 15w. Other than that it’s great.

It depends on what you want to do, for gaming I think Intel is better than AMD, but honestly, they have fought so much between them that today they are practically the same, there are games that will require more from the graphics card, others that will require more from the processor, but in itself, I think they are the same.

Yes. In this comparison i expect it coming down to the different cooling of the Asus Scar Strix 17 vs Asus Scar G18. The latter has the intel, more space (18" vs 17.3"), and they did the 3-fan heatpipe over full width thingy, getting better control over the temps which isnt present in the Scar Strix 17. However, AMD is way more efficient TDP wise and the difference as observed is rather minimal between the two. I'm currently looking into this and i think it's best to decide on what deal for the laptop you get. Caution tho, this advice only applies to those 2 ASUS Laptops, not sure about other brands.

@@Rammbob No it's because of the much smaller die size of Ryzen, making it more difficult to dissipate heat efficiently (due to the smaller transistor size since it uses a newer manufacturing process).

@@Rammbob Correct. AMD uses less power because of the smaller transistors overall, but smaller transistors means a smaller CPU die, meaning more heat is concentrated into a smaller area. CPUs are designed to run at their maximum temperature so I don't think that should be a reason to stop you from buying AMD. I would too if not for the abysmal battery life on idle and lack of advanced optimus.
