No drinking during assembly..you'll forget something for sure. 😄

Thanks for the tip Stephen. Actually I don't drink alcohol. After a misspent youth where I had a lifetimes worth of volume (and lots of other stuff), I decided it doesn't do me much good. There's enough challenges in life without being in an altered state. Know what I mean?

Done 14 rz's now. Canada eh! I ping the key on both sides, one ping in front, one on the other rear side. I put a magnet on it overnight. I paint pen the key way and lightly litium grease the shaft, wiping away any residue. Polymer chemistry does the rest. The magnetism pulls the whole thing together. Voila. The ping marks create friction, enabling the key to not rise up.

Why haven't you changed the clutch basket rubbers? they seem to have slack.. Thanks for vídeo
@KensGarage12 жыл бұрын
The rubbers have been discarded and will not be replaced. This is the first engine I have disassembled that even had them installed. They are not required so will not be used.

@@KensGarage1I think this guy was talking about the clutch basket dampers, and I think he was right. I just noticed it on my AC as well. Those are the dampers which are INSIDE the clutch basket, you have to grind or drill the rivets in the back to get to them. You can see in your video here that you can freely rotate the basket back and forth on the gear a bit (around 03:10). Those dampers are for damping vibrations through the drivetrain, I think you were talking about the "big O-ring" things that sit in the airgap under the clutch plates. Anyways, I just reassembled my AC without changing the worn dampers and am feeling a little "dissatisfied" about it :-(

The EBC clutch really muddys the gearbox oil.
@KensGarage12 жыл бұрын
This is the first time I've heard that. Lots of folks have used the EBC product. I always have purchased OEM FZ clutch plates for rebuilds. Oh, except for the thrasher bike that has a replacement Wiseco basket and plates amzn.to/3Ozxkun Works very good.

Nice work, Ken. I'll be curious to hear how you like the roller detent on the shaft star. Does it improve the shifting? On my rebuild, I replaced the spring on the shift shaft and the metal bushing the shift shaft passes through on the chain side of the engine case. I am still using the stock detent and shift star. My shifting is improved, no more missed or half shifts. Shift action is very "firm". The new spring seems to be making a difference. Waiting to see how it wears in after a few hundred shifts and some oil changes. FZ600 clutch plates, I gather? Guessing the larger surface area negates the need for rubber damper rings? I know some guys do not run the damper rings. Understandable, considering what Yamaha charges for them....ugh. I am always interested in how guys do stuff. You can always learn new ways to achieve good results. Coffee time!

Yeah, some new stuff on this rebuild. The roller detent, the pancake bearing, and the shift star mod (done on others). I would have to look through my notes to answer the FZ600 clutch plate question. I just don't remember if it's FZ or FZR??? Maybe the same.
