Nice machine. I have owned 3 rzrs in the past all where good until the 1200-1500 mile mark then started to fall apart even when doing preventative maintenance as per the manual. My rzrs where alot of fun. But always upgraded to a new rzr when it was still under 2000 miles.
@WooPowOffroad7 жыл бұрын
When you say fall apart, can you elaborate? Was it wear items or complete catastrophic failure? I know lots of folks with RZR's with over 4,000 miles with minor work required (mostly wear items like bearings, belts, etc.)
@wraith5118020037 жыл бұрын
Rzr that fall apart are due to lack of maintenance or beating on them. I have seen rental rzr with over 5k on them and still going strong. wearable items must be replaced and maintained as in any vehicle. The same clutch was on that rental for the whole 5 k.

That is what I would expect.

moving parts never had issues with motor or trans or diffs. I looked after my Rzrs properly did maintenance as per scheduled. Its the nature of the beast. My one 09 rzr blew a belt and cracked the primary sleeve but that was the only issue.

Glad to hear! I now have a little over 50 miles on it and absolutely love it. Anyone on the fence about getting a RZR make the jump, you won't regret it.

Gated shifter gives you postive stopping points between rev and forward. so that you dont harm the linkages. One thing you may want to do if you rock crawl alot is power ventilate the clutch. Should be 2 clutch intake paths, put a blower on one of them and use it when you crawl . Makes the clutch last even longer than it will with out it.
@WooPowOffroad7 жыл бұрын
I have read about that and have been contemplating having it blow hot air out or pull cool air in. I am leaning towards blowing hot air out.
@wraith5118020037 жыл бұрын
I did that, i put a 270 cfm blower on my intake side of my clutch. It helps alot. cover it with some of that hydrpo phobic cloth.
@wraith5118020037 жыл бұрын
just so you are aware, the low point of water ingress is the clutch exhaust right where you check the oil on the machine in the middle of the seats. I had to re route mine with snorkels to cross small water ways.
@AV8R_17 жыл бұрын
There is a bypass mod for the seatbelt speed inhibitor if you wanted one. The shifter is only gated for park like you mentioned, but what makes it special from other RZR's is the ability to directly back and forth between Low and Reverse without being able to accidentally shoving it into park.
@WooPowOffroad7 жыл бұрын
Ah, this is my first RZR so not having driven a "non-gated" model I didn't appreciate that feature.

Hi I was wondering now that it's august how the machine is performing? I'm looking at this in a 2018 model. Like the machine but I'm a bit concerned about forking out 30K (CAD out the door) for a machine that... doesn't last and can only play. It also seems a bit more spartan than I thought, no roof, lacking upgraded skid plates, no A arm skids. BTW I own a Kubota 1100 D so that has all the work no fun, thing is a tank. It's this or about a 1/3rd of the price on a Yamaha Grizzly 700. Different things for sure.
@WooPowOffroad7 жыл бұрын
First, let me say that this machine hasn't let me down so far and is an amazing performer. It is sold as an "XP" or Extreme Performance machine and it is tailer built for performance. This specific model (LE or Rock edition) is tailored to rocks and trails, they have a mud edition (Highlifter) as well as a high speed turbo model. If you are buying a RZR for work then you will be very let down as that is not what it is designed for. If you want a work machine then get a ranger or even consider the new General. If, however, you want the best trail machine you can get then look no further.
@kevinargudin23187 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the quick response. I have the Kubota for work and it isn't leaving This is mostly fun. On Occasion I would like it to do some work like pull or go back and forth from the barn and carry the tools I need. Living in Canada I'm most likely to be trail riding and on rocks far more than anything else. I've looked at a lot of models and I'm trying to decide if the up charges for the LE editions are worth it. After market is full of parts, might be a challenge to get parts for a 2018 right now but they will come. Things like the Roof you got, or A-Arm Guards or for that mater SSS-Skid plates, they look like they take a beating. I'm off to do the wrestling over price tomorrow for the final show down.

I'm in the same boat you are. Own a pioneer 1000-5 in the shop currently with clutch issues. Seriously considering this polaris. Just curious your take on the Polaris now and anything you miss on the Honda or anything the Honda did better etc?
@WooPowOffroad7 жыл бұрын
Really the Pioneer 1000-5 and the RZR XP are two very different machines. The Pioneer had a handy dump bed for hauling stuff around the property. With that said, the pioneer had a terrible ride and the transmission was jerky, geared to high in low range & reverse, and not very durable. The RZR is leaps and bounds better in every category. It is more powerful, has much better ground clearance, very smooth ride, and a really low crawling low range for forward and reverse. To be honest, if I was going to get something with a dump bed I would look very seriously at the Ranger for pure work or the new general for a hybrid. If you want something for trail riding, rock crawling, and just general fun then the RZR XP in my opinion can't be beat. Also, belts are much cheaper to replace than an automotive tranny like the Pioneer and can be re-geared with relative ease. Any other questions just ask!

Marine660 thanks for the response. Just wondering if there's anything you miss about the Honda? I'm getting ready to pull the trigger soon.
@WooPowOffroad7 жыл бұрын
Nope! This machine is so amazing!! As long as you are willing to accept that it's purpose is not a work machine. The Pioneer is a "hybrid" in that it has a dump bed but is sold as a trail machine as well. My honest opinion is that it didn't excel in either category. Take the plunge, I seriously doubt you would regret it!

I will be buying this machine in the next week. One thing I didnt see when I was doing the walk around was what kind of winch controller it came with. Was it a wired controller that plugs in somewhere on the machine?
@WooPowOffroad7 жыл бұрын
The remote control for the winch is handheld with a wire. The end of the wire connects into the center console behind the clear plastic door in the center just below the gauge cluster.

Still liking your RZR? I am thinking about 2018 XP 1000 Trails & Rocks edition, I think about same as yours? I also have a Jeep but no lockers and was thinking about getting this instead of getting locks on my Jeep.

It's not actually a screen it comes from the factory with that and its a storage area that has a clear cover for a cell phone.

great review.. sounds like my situation, only I have the 2012 Kawasaki Teryx 4..I bought the Polaris LE model same one as yours 2 weeks ago just wondering how it's holding up. I am heading out for the outlaw trails in West Virginia the week after the 4th.. for the break-in ride..
@WooPowOffroad7 жыл бұрын
So far it is holding up great! However, in full disclosure I have only had one good ride on it so far. I just finished up a new video showing some good preventative maintenance that is highly suggested to be done soon after purchase.

How do you like those harnesses? Pretty cool looking with the free moving upper straps
@WooPowOffroad7 жыл бұрын
The harness actually works really well. It make me feel very safe and secure when rock crawling and driving at high speed. The only downfall to me is the hassle of putting it all on for short drives where you don't need that level of protection. However, I wouldn't want a RZR Without a harness like that.

@WooPowOffroad7 жыл бұрын
I would agree....the RZR has WAY more power...not sure who you are quoting with your post. The honda has power but wouldn't touch the RZR.
@WooPowOffroad7 жыл бұрын
If you are referring to some comment I made, I never made that statement. The Honda is WAY underpowered compared to the RZR 1000.
@kellismallwoood16376 жыл бұрын
Main difference is: The Honda will be running years after this machine is broken!~
@WooPowOffroad6 жыл бұрын
I never said that Honda was bad... What I said was this is an extreme performance machine and with extreme performance comes maintenance. I believe that if taken care of it will give years of service. I do know that most that complain about the polaris are the ones that are running on the rev limiter bouncing up double black trails and absolutely beating on them.

I like it a lot so far! I have owned Can-am, Yamaha, Honda and now this Polaris. I believe the Can-Am wins in interior fit and finish, Honda on durability, and Yamaha on the belt drive durability. However, for sheer performance and capability none can touch the RZR.
