Here in India we have been working on red delicious since Mr. Stokes introduced it to Shimla 80 to 90 years back. But 1st ever apple plantation was done way back in Kullu but Mr. Stokes introduced it on a larger scale later. There has been almost more than 50 apple varieties basically on which Himachal is working on and even helping other states like J&k, Uttarakhand & Arunachal Pradesh to follow the same. When it comes to pricing royal delicious is the old and cheapest and spur and semi spur apple are on the expensive side and people are slowly transforming towards spur, gala, granny type of varieties and that too on the high or ultra high density plantation menthod. But in India Upper Kinnaur apple is unmatched due it's quality,taste, texture & shelf life and are very rare to find in the local markets due to it's export quality and are very expensive.
