To those not in the know: He's actually playing live with a modular synthesizer. To fully appreciate the technicality of this set, you should know that all those wires are connecting different sound generating modules. Most of them would make squeaky, unpredictable noise. Getting them to do WHAT YOU WANT requires not only complete mastery of each separate module connected with the wire, but full understanding how that mesh of cables should connect between different sound sources to create something melodic, instead of "cat being tortured" screams. So, doing that live - you HAVE to know exactly what each does and what sound you're after - otherwise you'll get unpredictable noise (or nothing). Millions of possibilities, most of which would result in chaos. He keeps them in order. All those DJs touching the Hi/Mid/Low EQ knobs and flailing their hands in the air? How cute. This guy is not just a musician, he's an incredible master of this instrument - on par with any maestro of classical instrument. Incredible performance.

@Robots Robots well said! he is partly a machine himself i think! I've been lucky enough to be on the same bill as him in Australia, and apart from his super musical talent, he's an absolute gentleman and eager to encourage those who are passionate about what they do. I rate him very highly as a human as well as musician just off a 15 minute conversation, you can tell music/art is everything to him.
@KR-xf3cg3 жыл бұрын
Yeah he definitely is. I've been following him for nearly 15 years now, and he's consistently put out great electronic music and not release 2-3 tracks then fade into obscurity like some. One of the best indeed.
@Loukk_3 жыл бұрын
I admire Sébastien and love his passion and dedication but I can't sit here and let you critique other djs that are mixing records (not playing a live set). I mean he (Sébastien) mostly does play with cdjs and this was an exception so you can't minimize the other "classical" ways of mixing records like that. What he's doing is very very technical I admit, and you have to basically learn your machine by heart but when you go see a dj, you won't be looking at their hands or what they are doing, you'll be listening to what's coming out of the speakers. The true essence of a DJ is his capacity to make a room fall in love, whether it be with turntables, a laptop, a modular synthesizer or anything else really. So please don't denigrate other artists because they are doing something that might seem "easy" to you. Hernan Cattaneo plays exclusively on cdjs and i truly believe he is the most amazing artist our scene has seen. He chose that way of playing and believe me when I tell you that when he plays, you fall in love with him for the whole duration of his performance (which ususally lasts about 6 or 7 hours).

The closest I get is to call this is: Medeteranian soft jazz electronic music with hints from south America (or opposite way). In my view, the musical sequence from minute 35:00 to 40:00 transcends mere sound - it feels like a portal, a threshold to a parallel universe, perhaps even a channel through which contact with extraterrestrial life could be achieved. Each time I hear these tones, a shiver runs down my spine, and a deep resonance stirs within me. This video is a testament to the immense power that profound music can unleash, especially in a place as awe-inspiring and mysterious as the Pyramids of Giza - a site that continues to baffle and intrigue humanity to this day. The entire performance is, without question, one of Cercle's most extraordinary productions, a dazzling fusion of artistry and atmosphere. My deepest gratitude to Sébastien Léger for crafting such a singular, transcendent musical experience.

for Real tho... Rarely do I get to encounter someone who is a genuine Artist such as he and to be able to watch him practicing his craft and communicating w/ the world through his art is amazing... Its like watching ppl looking @ my paintings and seeing them feeling what I was trying to say how I express myself w/color. I absolutely Love this man...

I want to know everything about the creation of this sorcery. The pyramid views are awesome, but I want to know every decision-making process behind what Sebastian is doing in terms of choosing which buttons on that magic box to twist and turn; how much is planned vs created in the moment, etc. I also want to know everything about the creation of those epic pyramids. Always been obsessed. This is an overall amazing production. Wow. The sounds sound SO GOOD in my headphones. So rich and so much depth/dimension. The quality is immaculate. The music-making is superb. The video is stunning. This is art, dudes.

look into modular synthesis. most of it looks live and it was probably rehearsed. im sure some of it was also a bit of improvisation.

This epic sunset set from beginning to end is magical. The programming is superb and the mixes are deep and in key, setting the tone with the first track, taking us for a ride with original tunes, using Ableton Live to edit, extend and remix, topped with modular Moog effects and transitions on the fly, with this beautiful setting infront of the Pyramids of Giza : Priceless! Thank you Sébastien for the inspiration and for the 1st Aid for the Soul; You Rock!

The Pharaohs would be honoured by this set - it really lives up to their divine status. This is true art, in its purest form, generated with 21st century technology. The best that humanity has to offer. And us mere mortals are allowed to enjoy it. WTF.
