For a non-Finn, the pronunciation is unusually excellent. There are a few words that reveal that the singer is not a Finnish speaker, but about 95% of the song a native couldn't tell the difference. Astonishing.

During soviet retreats in the Continuation War, the Soviets left radio mines on bridges and roads to sabotage finnish advances. These mines would be triggered by recon units observing the finnish units by playing three destinct tones over radio, telling the bombs to detonate. The Finns, however, quickly learned that blasting this song on every radio frequency 24/7 would stop these bombs from working, which is why Säkkijärven Polkka was the only thing you could hear on all channels for months on end, and why soviet veterans of this war have major PTSD from it lol

During the Continuation war, the Finnish military discovered that the retreating Soviets had scattered radio-guided mines throughout the recaptured city of Vaipuri. These mines were activated when a three-note chord was played on the frequency to which the radio was tuned. The Finns discovered that when they played the Säkkijärven polkka tune on the same radio frequency on which the mines were set, they exploded and thus the tune was used as a kind of "mine bank". The most famous and historically used tune is a recording made on June 17, 1939 with members of the Dalfa Orchestra. The recording took place in the ballroom of the German School in Helsinki. The recording became not only the savior of Vipuri, but also the most famous performance of the Säkkijärven polka of all time.

@@thebaron2277 Finland turned over Soviet POWs, and some Jews, over to Germany and they perished in concentration camps. Finland participated in the siege of Leningrad which starved the local population, president Risto Ryti promised the Germans that Finland would not accept peace with the Soviets while he was in power (what a Nazi cuck), Finland signed the Anti-Comintern Pact, the Paris Peace Treaty classified Finland as an Ally of Germany during the war, Britain declared war on Finland after Finland refused to negotiate peace. Finland was absolutely an ally of the Nazis. Finland supported the Nazi invasion of the USSR, the most genocidal war in human history. I don't understand why so many numbskulls keep defending countries like Finland as if they weren't just another ally of Germany. If you support the Continuation War you support Operation Barbarossa.

While it is true that Russian state media blows the extent of the Ukrainian nazi problem out of propotion to justify the war, to claim that it is miniscule or even non- existent, like the avrg "SLAVA UKRAINI" screaming 16 year old, would be nothing more than complete and utter cognitive dissonance in the face of the grimm reality that is the rise, political normalsation and governmental instutuionalisation of the far-, like soooo far- right, of white supremacy and of Nazbolism, Nazism and Fashism since the 2014 orange "revolution".

Polish Translation (not 100% accurate, as I changed some things to make it sound better) Kraj Karelii to tylko piękne wspomnienie, ale muzyczka dalej gra od serca, Gdy od muzykanta usłyszysz, Polkke o Sakkijarvi! Polkka o Sakkijarvi! Polkka o Sakkijarvi!
