SÓLSTAFIR are not like any other band. Their latest album, 'Berdreyminn' underscores this statement. As its title "a dreamer of forthcoming events" aptly describes, the four Icelanders have taken their already impressive evolution one step further. The band has continued to amalgamate haunting melodies, psychedelic phases, as well as strong undercurrents of classic rock and hard rock with echoes of their metal past. Yet SÓLSTAFIR's focus is not on style but pure emotion. 'Berdreyminn' is eclectic by a conscious choice to make feelings audible and transform taste as well as texture to sound. Genre borders are not broken but simply ignored. Musical influences are gathered from a wide range of sources, re-arranged, and woven into new patterns. Melancholy, longing, anger, joy, pleasure, pain, and other emotions are fulling this album.

I love the song, although I gotta admit I don't like that repetitive, fake drum machine sound. But if you look at the rating, ALOT more people like the song than dislike. It's mostly the haters complaining.

I think it has to do with a lot of people being grumpy about the way Gummi was kicked out of the band. Which reflects in the nagging about the drums on the new songs, although the new guy isn't that bad. I've heard him live 3 times and really couldn't complain. I think the problem people have with him is that he's not Gummi.

Am I the only one who has listened to this a few times now and found that it's growing on me? It's definitely different than Otta, as Otta was different from Svartir. I like the flow of the song and transition at 1:50. Every Solstafir album has been this to me: it grows on you over time. Give it time and wait for the rest of the album to come out.

I think this song is better than stuff of two previous albums (most of it had a special mood, but lacked groove and catchy melodies). I like bands that do things differently with each new record, and now I'm waiting for Berdreyminn with optimism.

New Sólstafir's song 'Ísafold' is more hard rock than 'post rock - post metal', but it's still great!! Nice atmosphere as always, progressive elements, the best part is after 3:40 !!! Fucking amazing melody...

Strielok BIH Bullshit man ! I am a fan of solstafir since their 2nd album (with the beautiful Culf of Fire), I have really loved Khold album, less the following two others (I find them far less inspired). But the 2 new songs of the new one are really awesome ! It mixes both the inspiration of the old albums and the more rock orientation of the new ones. Open your ears.

I liked this quite a lot actually. It's simple and beautiful. I love Otta. It was an amazing album with its distinct dark, misty aura. But musicians change over the course of their career. They have their own experiences in life, their choices etc. This is just a different approach, a different side of the band. Regardless of all that genre and sellout stuff, this is still a good song and they are still a good in terms of their music. What they did to their ex-drummer is something else of course.

@@ArinmarDeKaldenoc Gummi's style is much less precise. Listen to Katla to regognise it. To me it was a substantial part of the Sólstafir-Sound. Echoing the Black/Viking Metal heritage of the Band. In the end it's about what one values in the music of a band. Nightwish without Tarja doesn't work for me - even though Floor Jansen does a good job and is a fantastic singer. Immortal without Abbath works. Ulver - with all their musical changes - works.

@@FR0STBL0D hmm..much less precise. i would call it more like, alot combination of snare drum and floor tom..delighted by cymbals. Sure he had his own style, and it was nice..no doubt. And sure now the sound of Solstafir changes...but its hard to say if gummi would have played these songs in the same or another way, thats all i say ;)

The feel is exactly the same, there's just less heaviness. The atmosphere is still 100% Solstafir. Overall this sounds much closer to some post punk and goth rock, but that influence was already clear on the previous albums. If metalheads keep on thinking that less heavy guitars makes music less dark or atmospheric then maybe they'd say Abba would be the most trv thing ever if someone would slap heavy guitars on top of their songs.

They said in interviews that their songwriting is based on just very long jamming til they get something good, so why is everyone saying as if drummer wrote everything? This band is getting softer with time.
