The red thing in the rice is a piece of fragrant wood called 蘇木 thlu muk in Chinese. I'm not sure of the English name but you can buy it at a Chinese apothecary like at an herbal shop. You can show them the Chinese characters and they will know. 蘇木於藥材參茸店可買
