আব্বাসউদ্দীন আহমদ ১৯০১ সালের ২৭শে অক্টোবর পশ্চিমবঙ্গের কুচবিহার জেলার তুফানগঞ্জ মহকুমার বলরামপুর গ্রামে জন্মগ্রহণ করেন।[১] আব্বাস উদ্দীন আহমদের পিতা জাফর আলী আহমদ ছিলেন তুফানগঞ্জ মহকুমা আদালতের উকিল। মাতা হিরামন নেসা। [৩] শৈশবে বলরামপুর স্কুলে আব্বাসউদ্দীনের শিক্ষা জীবন শুরু হয়। ১৯১৯ সালে তুফানগঞ্জ স্কুল থেকে তিনি প্রবেশিকা এবং ১৯২১ সালে কুচবিহার কলেজ থেকে আই.এ পাস করেন। এখান থেকে বি.এ পরীক্ষায় অনুত্তীর্ণ হয়ে তিনি সঙ্গীত জগতে প্রবেশ করেন।[৪] তার বড় ছেলে ড. মোস্তফা কামাল বাংলাদেশ সুপ্রীম কোর্টের একজন বিচারপতি ছিলেন। মেজো ছেলে মুস্তাফা জামান আব্বাসী ও একমাত্র মেয়ে ফেরদৌসী রহমান কণ্ঠশিল্পী।[৫]
একজন কণ্ঠশিল্পী হিসেবে আব্বাস উদ্দীনের পরিচিতি দেশজোড়া। আধুনিক গান, স্বদেশী গান, ইসলামি গান, পল্লীগীতি, উর্দুগান সবই তিনি গেয়েছেন। তবে পল্লীগীতিতে তার মৌলিকতা ও সাফল্য সবচেয়ে বেশি। গানের জগতে তার ছিল না কোনো ওস্তাদের তালিম। আপন প্রতিভাবলে নিজেকে সবার সামনে তুলে ধরেন। তিনি প্রথমে ছিলেন পল্লীগায়ের একজন গায়ক। যাত্রা, থিয়েটার ও স্কুল-কলেজের সংস্কৃতিক অনুষ্ঠানে গান শুনে তিনি গানের প্রতি আকৃষ্ট হয়ে পড়েন এবং নিজ চেষ্টায় গান গাওয়া রপ্ত করেন। এরপর কিছু সময়ের জন্য তিনি ওস্তাদ জমিরউদ্দীন খাঁর নিকট উচ্চাঙ্গ সঙ্গীত শিখেছিলেন।[৬] পণ্ডিত শাকিল রাসেলের রেফারেন্স অনুযায়ী রংপুর ও কোচবিহার অঞ্চলের ভাওয়াইয়া, ভাভাগো ভাভা, ক্ষীরোল, চটকা গেয়ে আব্বাস উদ্দীন প্রথমে সুনাম অর্জন করেন। তারপর জারি, সারি, ভাটিয়ালি , মুর্শিদি, বিচ্ছেদি, দেহতত্ত্ব, মর্সিয়া, পালা গান ইত্যাদি গান গেয়ে জনপ্রিয় হন। তিনি তার দরদভরা সুরেলা কণ্ঠে পল্লি গানের সুর যেভাবে ফুটিয়ে তুলেছিলেন তা আজও অদ্বিতীয়। তিনি কাজী নজরুল ইসলাম, জসীম উদ্‌দীন, গোলাম মোস্তফা প্রমুখের ইসলামি ভাবধারায় রচিত গানেও কণ্ঠ দিয়েছেন। তিনি কাজী নজরুল ইসলামের সহায়তায় কলকাতায় এসে গ্রামোফোন রেকর্ডে গান রেকর্ড করেন। তার প্রথম রেকর্ড 'কোন বিরহীর নয়নজলে বাদল ঝরে গো' এবং রেকর্ড করা গানের সংখ্যা কমপক্ষে সাত-শো। শহুরে জীবনে লোকগীতিকে জনপ্রিয় করার কৃতিত্ব আব্বাসউদ্দিনের। আবার বাংলার মুসলমান সমাজকে উদীপ্ত করেছিলেন ইসলামি গান গেয়ে। পল্লীগীতির সংগ্রাহক কানাইলাল শীলের কাছে কৃতজ্ঞ ছিলেন। ক্ল্যাসিক্যাল গান শিখেছিলেন ওস্তাদ জমিরুদ্দিন খাঁর কাছে।এ কে ফজলুল হকের মন্ত্রীত্বের সময় তিনি রেকর্ডিং এক্সপার্ট হিসেবে সরকারি চাকরিতে প্রবেশ করেন। চল্লিশের দশকে আব্বাস উদ্দিনের গান পাকিস্তান আন্দোলনের পক্ষে মুসলিম জনতার সমর্থন আদায়ে গুরুত্বপূর্ণ ভূমিকা পালন করে।
Abbasuddin Ahmed was born on 26 October 1901 in the village of Balrampur in the Tufanganj subdivision of the Cooch Behar district of West Bengal. [1] Mother Hiramon Nesa. [3] Abbasuddin's educational career began at Balrampur School in his childhood. He entered from Tufanganj School in 1919 and passed IA from Cooch Behar College in 1921. From here, he passed the BA exam and entered the world of music. [4] Mostafa Kamal was a judge of the Bangladesh Supreme Court. Mejo's son Mustafa Zaman Abbasi and only daughter Ferdousi Rahman are vocalists. [5]
Abbas Uddin is known all over the country as a vocalist. He has sung modern songs, Swadeshi songs, Islamic songs, folk songs, Urdu songs. However, his originality and success is most in folk songs. He did not have the training of any master in the world of music. He presented himself in front of everyone with his talent. He was first a singer in Palligai. He became fascinated with music when he heard songs on journeys, theater and school-college cultural events and learned to sing on his own. For some time after that he learned classical music from Ustad Jamiruddin Khan. Then he became popular by singing songs like Jari, Sari, Bhatiali, Murshidi, Bichhedi, Dehatattva, Murcia, Pala Gaan etc. The way in which he embodied the melody of country songs in his tender melodious voice is still unique today. He has also sung songs written in Islamic style by Kazi Nazrul Islam, Jasim Uddin, Golam Mostafa and others. He came to Calcutta with the help of Kazi Nazrul Islam and recorded songs on gramophone records. His first record is 'Kon Birhir Nayanjale Badal Jhare Go' and the number of songs recorded is at least seven shows. Abbasuddin is credited with popularizing folklore in urban life. He again inspired the Muslim community of Bengal by singing Islamic songs. Kanailal, a collector of folk songs, was grateful to Sheel. He learned classical music from Ustad Zamiruddin Khan. He entered the government service as a recording expert during the ministry of AK Fazlul Huq. In the 1940s, Abbas Uddin's songs played an important role in garnering the support of the Muslim masses for the Pakistan movement.
