Legendary actor Toshiro Mifune is known for his masterly performances in the films of Akira Kurosawa, but he also had a long collaboration with director Senkichi Taniguchi that spanned nearly twenty years. This video is a compilation of clips from some of Mifune's most prominent films with Taniguchi.
Thank you to F. C. and M. L.

Yes, he was beautiful. And his human qualities often show during that period (like in the picture I used as thumbnail for example, you can see how kind, sweet and humble he really was).

@@Artdesignandcinema Well, Mifune Toshiro lived up to his name, which means talented and intelligent, and I must say very few people can beat that, if any, at all. It seems you have not been successful in removing my comment, but I took out the detail that should not have been there in the first place. Sending you my love, thank you.

Mifune Toshiro was indeed a very handsome man. But, more than that, he was a beautiful soul, kind, humble, funny, generous. This video is just about his work with Taniguchi Senkichi, who gave him his first role in "Ginrei no hate" in 1947 (screenplay by Kurosawa Akira). You are welcome to watch the video about his work with Kurosawa Akira.

Thank you for your comment! I agree, it's unbelievable that Toshiro Mifune was not recognized by his peers in Hollywood. He was a master, absolutely unique, always perfect even in the smallest roles. My next video will explore his collaboration with Okamoto, it was posponed because one of their movies was missing in my list. I hope that you will like it.

Oscar is about box office successes, about making money for the industry, it may coincide with quality, but that was not the point. So here are the two points: 1. Plenty of times they passed the worthy actors and actresses and quality art work for the wacky, commercially succesful ones. 2. Mr. Mifune did not make money for Hollywood did he? He made money for Japan! He was immensely talented, intelligent and professional the best of the best, the cream of the crop, he was not simply an actor, he was a true artist. But what was it to Hollywood? Think of Kurosawa! Japan did not appreciate one of its best artist-director but burnt over 100 minutes of his masterpiece, the adaptation of Dostoyevsky's Idiot!

Thank you for watching! :-) Those videos (about his work with Inagaki, Taniguchi and Okamoto do not have many viewers, which is sad since it shows different parts of Toshiro Mifune's work, not always the best known. If you have the possibility to share them, please do. I try to maximise their diffusion. It's not for me (I earn no money with those videos because of copyrights) but for the memory of a great man.

Actors in scenes with Mifune must have known from the gitgo, that nobody in the audience would watch anybody but him, whenever he was onscreen. But in a way, it was an honor just to be there...and take part in what he brought to his work. He was also not afraid to get 'sloppy, gritty, down and dirty'..the paint splash fight scene at the end of DRUNKEN ANGEL is both gruesomely comical and utterly heartbreaking... But even THAT - center stage Mifune.

Yes, absolutely. The focus and amount of work it represents are unbelievable. No actor would do that today. It's far too dangerous. But Toshiro Mifune was uncompromising. It's part of why he became a legend.

Thank you very much for your comment! With my videos, I try to show how versatile and unique Toshiro Mifune was. He is best known for his samurai roles but his career is so much more than that! If you want to see more, I recommend my best videos (in terms of editing): the videos about his collaboration with director Hiroshi Inagaki, Akira Kurosawa and Kihachi Okamoto, the video about his mexican movie, "Animas Trujano", the one about "Throne of blood" and "Hell in the Pacific" and the last one, about Kurosawa's "Stray dog". The next one will be about "The hidden fortress", the movie that inspired "Starwars, episode IV", and then, a very complex one about Toshiro Mifune's favorite role in "Seven samurai". (and remember: when you see him with a sword, it's always a real one, always).
