Misawa's death the previous night literally made Akiyama decide to go see a doctor before this show (he had wrestled that night in I believe the third-to-last match, but stayed in the back because he was in so much pain that he couldn't go out to the ring with everyone else after Misawa lost consciousness), which is where he found out that he had herniated discs in his back and was thus not gonna be able to defend the GHC Heavyweight Title against Takeshi Rikio that night, so he vacated the title to take some time off for the rest of that tour and chose Go Shiozaki to wrestle in his place for it. That's a bit of background for those who didn't know why Shiozaki ended up winning the belt, he was originally supposed to have won the Tag Team Titles with Misawa the previous night, but as we all know, the match got stopped because of what happened to him and it didn't happen. Shame how things turned out one night, but they made a good storyline choice in having Shiozaki win the title the next night as a result given how fast his stock had been rising that year and he'd almost beaten Akiyama for the title a month prior even though it didn't really help them business-wise.
it sucks to see this kind of thing happen, especially in wrestling. this was no different with misawa because think of where he passed; in the ring where he was always the best in. R.I.P Misawa-San
