MF managers of ICICI I spoke to suggested ICICI multi asset fund in recent past and BAF little earlier. ICICI walks the talk. Nifty / Nifty midcap ratio fell in Oct 2001-Mar 2005 , Aug 13 _ Sept 17, Jun 20- Jan 25 ! These are periods of outperformance by midcap. It has to be ascertained separately whether midcap was in uptrend in those periods . However it is seen midcap doing well over long periods . In between it was see saw battle between 2 indices . Overall in 25 years midcap has outperformed N50 ! When the tide turns it can last as much as 2 years. After prolonged outperformance midcap is poised to take a breather at present ! Personally I am not inclined to hold patiently when the portfolio is under water and that would be the case if I start a SIP now .Accordingly I value the insights by CIO,ICICI .

In a market correction, stocks across market caps fall (large, mid & small) and it’s natural for small & mid caps to correct significantly more than large caps because of their inherent high alfa & high beta. But, one must not forget it’s the same small & mid cap stocks that have the ability to give 5x - 10x returns as compared to large caps/Nifty 50 in a bull run. So, it’s only logical to not sell your small & mid cap stocks, if possible downward average so that when the right time comes, your profits will be way higher than the large caps. What’s key is to invest in stocks will exceptional fundamentals
