An interesting and entertaining conversation. I hope any Singaporeans viewing this do not take the questioning the wrong way: it is not common to see the PM interviewed and interrupted in quite this combatitive way. But Malcolm Rifkind is a former senior Minister and present very senior and respected Parliamentarian, and by engaging in such a sparky conversation was, in UK terms, showing PM Lee great respect as a politician of substance and importance. PM Lee handled it with great charm and equanimity, with some good jokes and gentle digs at the British audience's expense - also taken in good part! A great initiative which shows rapidly growing maturity and trust between two important, multi-cultural, trading, island countries and cultures.

Do not make a mistake by calling Britain a 'multicultural' country. Singapore is. Britain is not. No European (or any Western for that matter) country is multicultural in a sense that Singapore is. And neither will be anytime soon. It is a term that has been misunderstood by many European politicians and used where it shouldn't be.

urban dweller I think this is not correct: Britain is multi-cultural - have a look at the people who won gold meals for Britain in the London Olympics, for example. You think Scotland's culture is the same as Birmighnam's? It is certainly less multi-cultural than Singapore, but more so than many European countries.

Christopher Davies I think the problem is that people are mistaking ethnic diversity of London (or any big European city) with actually being multicultural. Britain is a country that is best defined as British (read 'English') in terms of its culture. NOT multi-cultural as such. There aren't that many truly multicultural countries in the world. Singapore being one of them. Mauritius another one, perhaps Malaysia to some extent. Britain does not fall into that category and it is delusional to believe that.

Malcolm Rifkind is a not a good host. His knowledge of the world's affair is poor.
