Certainly, the Jewish or Israeli operations to help the Abyssian or Ethiopian jews has a long history. Very few people know that some of the early bases or offices to facilitate and support the Yemeni and the Ethiopian jews was based in Asmara. After the demise of the last emperor in Ethiopia in 1974, the offices were moved to Sudan in different forms. For example, the first modern Ethiopian Jews teachers were trained in Asmara in the 1950s and 1960s who were mostly from Adi Awala and a certain Gonder village. Before this many jewish travelers, as missioners, have lived in Tsa'da Kristian and Hazega while conducting their search for the Jewish communities in Gonder and Tigray. One of these was Father J Faitlovich who started a Jewish school in Addis in the 1920s. Operation Solomon ( מבצע שלמה, Mivtza Shlomo) was a covert Israeli military operation in May 24 to 25, 1991, to airlift Ethiopian Jews to Israel. Operation Moses ( מִבְצָע מֹשֶׁה, Mivtza Moshe) was the covert evacuation of Ethiopian Jews (known as the "Beta Israel" community) to Israel.
