This is very common, not just in Australia but everywhere. Even in high posh societies in Bangalore, there is a strong divide between North Indians and South Indians. Its unfortunate, but it is the way it is.

They try to wield dominance over South Indians when ever they can.After the pre degree course I took my bachelors,and Law degree from a very reputed university in utter pradesh over 40 years ago ,we collectively opposed that attitude and won against them in their own game.Ignore them. Over seas students cannot work part time or full time in USA but they do get lot of scholarships for postgraduate and doctoral degrees.Same amount you pay in New Zealand or Australia.

I have seen the same issue with lot of christians in USA. Lot of these don't even mingle with others even though they are Mallu's . They avoid Onam and other religious festivals. They don't even make friends with people if you are not part of their religion or church. They only stay with church, home and job.

Makes sense....not for me but my daughter as she struggles in school a bit as all her friends talk in Hindi and expect her as well....I never thought I will have to worry about her complaining to me of not knowing hindi in melbourne😅i was actually worried on her English which she easily picked up but now Hindi is the main issue😂😂

So Mallu friends, l made a typo in calling Hindi as a national language. Constitution doesn’t stipulate one language. But the recital on PA (Public Administration) when I was going for civil services; norm was every document pertaining to Indian administration should be published in Hindi. That’s the antecedent or precedence I was referring to. But now new government made the transparency on at least judicial systems to transcribe, transliterate and translate into local languages. Malayalam is a local language. Hindi is not. That’s what all what I want to say. Also, when we had these thoughts in the past as Indians, there were 500 odd princely states in India based on diversity and arguing stupidly like this when British ruled India dividing us on the same sentiments. It’s genetics innit? If there are communists in these comments section, I totally understand where that come from too. In a country where the population is limited and diversity is getting accepted, just let don’t look like muppets in the name of languages. Some even in the comments said they prefer to English over Hindi - Patteril Pottanilla Enna chollu thiruthanam.

If I ever meet you, I will just speak in madhya thivithaamkoor achadi Malayalam. But I never bother to speak Punjabi from Punjab, l prefer to speak Hindi than English. Athre Ollu parayan.

I feel same because instead of studying English I should have learnt Hindi. When I first worked in a supermarket lot of North Indians were there the first question they ask is do u know Hindi ?. If I say I don't, next question is are you from Sri Lanka?... I got very bad feeling about this. When I say hey I from India they ask then why don't you know Hindi. Anyway I don't want to study Hindi if I choose to learn and speak Hindi I should have gone to New Delhi why should I fucking come to Melbourne. It's very common in India itself. Discrimination and Segregation in the name of religion,cast , race , language, colour, region, job , financial situation, position in the society ,beauty concept ( body shaming) etc etc etc... ... There are many reasons. Indians are always Indians wherever they live and whatever they are. India, US, Europe, Africa, Middle East etc.. Very Common. It's in our Blood. I don’t know why this video appeared in my feed. Although Hindi is our national language and all Indians should have a good understanding of it, we are complaining about Indians speaking Hindi to Indians and not a local language. I can only understand it if they tried to speak Punjabi or Gujarati etc to us Mallus. I correct people from India when they try to speak English with me. If they are mallus, I say “malayalathil paraja mathi buddimuttenda”. If any other languages other than Tamil or bit kannada or Punjabi, l prefer to Hindi over English. All the more the funny is bush side aussies sometimes refer to us as Hindis than Indians. I deeply chuffed about your group and good on ya. But Hindi is that invisible thread that connect us together. Plus Pakistani speaks Urdu and a good Hindi speaking person hiring a Perth taxi service have a better chance to have a meaningful conversation with a Pakistani driver in Lucknawi Hindi Urdu mix 🙂
