How I wish I can thank Rachmaninoff for the joy he brings to me for such passionate compositions. Brings tears to my eyes...

Indeed, the 18th variation is the most inspiring, relaxing, and emotional movement that I feel listening to this my favorite Rachmaninoff composition.

15:56 / 16:50 Me too. Especially because it reminds me of the song „Everywhere“ by Fleetwood Mac. They put the beginning melody in the end of that song.

Excellent pianism, looking forward to more recordings of mr. Vetma. Also, great work on providing the score and precisely determining the beginning of each variation.

remon holubek remon holubek variation XVIII, the most popular one, we all do. it feels like the whole piece revolves around it as if the other variations are one's heart trying to figure sth out, overcome a feeling perhaps, out of one's confusion, and then one gets it and it's quite a relief, everything feels in its place

I like how the 18th variation is literally the theme backwards :)

I don't like the bit at 24:32 very much... Kinda ruins the experience.

Who else heard the theme of totentanz repeated a few times in this?
@Azian2DaMax6 жыл бұрын
That theme isn't derived from Totentanz. It's from the Gregorian plainchant melody _Dies_ _Irae_ . Listz's Totentanz was based off this theme and Rachmaninoff frequently used it in several of his compositions.
