I did a stage 1 on my Harley trike and it was pretty sweet, especially sounding. Later on I upgraded the stereo and did a stage 2 with a Jims 918 cam and it was a BEAST with 103HP and 135TQ at the wheel ... on a Trike, that was insane. I can easily do 120mph and get the front wheel up off the ground in the first 2 gears. But like you mentioned, the noise was pretty harsh. Totally drowning out the radio at just cruising speed. I actually took out the "Zombie" baffles and put in "Mid" baffles and that made the sound MUCH better, but I lose 4HP and 5TQ. Some days I miss it, most I don't. There is ALWAYS a balancing act.

@@sweetrides8418 The power is linear and from what I've read iy comes on earlier than the 475 so putting around on it s not to bad, M8s like to hang around upper RPMs anyway so like you said you just have to adjust a bit, and also the 475 is bit temperamental when it comes to exhaust so you could experiment to see if that changes things for the better

Change the shocks. Change the pads for more bite. Change the tires to the Metzeler tires used in bagger racing. Adjust ride height on rear. On your corners at low speed with a cam in a Harley it is common to half clutch to take the chop out when riding. Just get used to it and you will not go back to a smooth cam. If you do want a smother cam with the same power go with the star 30/30.

The 475 is nasty in low revs i had the same issue and didnt enjoy it for everyday relaxed riding either Some people will argue you shouldnt have cammed it then but it is very possible to have a cam and not have to deal with that Its a known thing, not nice around roundabouts and if your cruising you now need to be a gear lower than before in higher revs using more fuel and being noisier to have it riding smooth… pain in the ass Its great at wide open throttle but not cruise friendly Youve already got all the other parts if you get over it just swap it to a cyclerama 483 or star 30/30 cam and it will ride much better They are close to what you have but will be smoother in the bottom Or if you really favour bottom end torque early the cyclerama 480 might suit you better but will sacrifice a tad off the top end compared to the 483 Plenty of vids around this on youtube Exhaust can affect this majorly and create torque dips aswell but the exhaust you have is a great option so shouldnt be an issue Welcome to the world of spending thousands on harleys, be careful its addictive 😂

Nice, I'd recommend a different header for a bit more down low streetable torque and throttle response. Short length primary headers kill power below 3500 rpm, they're ok if you spend the majority of time in the upper registers of the rpm range but for normal street riding, long tube primary headers fit the bill. P.S. It's difficult to draw direct conclusions/comparisons with dyno numbers from H.D. and the aftermarket, Harley tends to show dyno numbers with restrictive cat pipes, lean fuel mixtures and retarded ignition timing (tuning)that are environmentally friendly whereas the aftermarket tends to show numbers with performance tuning and all the performance goodies added to gain as much power as they can to promote their products, not a real apple to apple comparison. Sweet bike btw.

Hi, that's really helpful thanks, Do you have any experience of the Zippers 468 cam, I've had a few people recommend it as being a little easier to live with.
@trekbsg4 ай бұрын
@@sweetrides8418 The Redshift 468 is a "torque cam" much in the same way as the SE-447 and S&S 465 cams are, the stock 117 cam isn't that far off of the SE-447 cam specs wise, which is why Harley doesn't recommend it for the 117, there wouldn't be much of a performance gain. Before you decide to switch cams, I'd really recommend you switch to long tube primary headers and have the bike re-tuned/dyno'd, the S&S 475 cam is a good street "power" cam but like most other performance parts, they need to matched together to work in concert with each other, putting a cam designed to make power in a specific rpm range and another part optimized to make power in another rpm range is where power is lost. Good luck & ride safe.

My only hesitation is that I take a couple of long touring trips with my riding buddies. Their bikes are all stock, and they like to go up to 200 miles before stopping for fuel. I had a friend years ago that put a cam into his 2008 Ultra, and his fuel milage went way down. We were having to stop every 150 miles to keep his bike running.
