I haven't felt so bowled over by art for decades! Absolutely delightful, astounding, and superb. It has touched me deeply and given me something I have never seen: a glimpse into early Chinese cinema. My partner and I first heard Oh! Susanna being sung in Chinese in a Chinese supermarket, here in Montreal. Of course we were amused. But my partner looked up "Oh Susanna in Chinese" on KZbin this evening and found this and some other versions. It would appear the American song has been popular in China for almost as long as it has existed. I just love the clips from Chinese silent films expressing the joy and sorrow of Chinese life, all so splendidly edited and provided with a swinging soundtrack. Thank you for this delightful video, Mr. Ming.

The one you heard in the supermarket might be a modern and abridged translation. The version presented in this video is particularly fascinating because the lyrics were translated first in the 1930s, and it is a close translation of all four verses of the original Oh Susanna. Including the now taboo second verse.
Изумительно! Это уже мировой шедевр, исполнение на новом языке только добавляет ему очков. Браво! Отличный клип!!!
