S.S. United States: What Happened?

The S.S. United States (1951-) was the fastest American built steamship in history. It beat the fastest British ship, the Queen Elizabeth, on its maiden voyage. But in the 1960s, despite its celebrity retinue, it encountered hurdles from the agencies supposed to protect it: the #Navy , #DepartmentofCommerce ....what happened to the #SSUnitedStates ?

It is a shame that the Queen Mary is saved in California and this beauty will be a reef. Should be the other way around, in my opinion. Very sad

@@kitt2000car Interesting, many nonprofits can't negotiate for shit and generally make bad decisions. The conservancy could've done A LOT. Opened the ship for historic/military/interior design tours. Hosted popup shops / restaurants. Explored the first floating apartment building in Philly. Attained a contract for a ship hospital. Attained ANY contract.
