S-trains in Copenhagen, Denmark

The S-train network is an urban rail network which serves Copenhagen city centre, surrounding boroughs as well as several suburbs in the Copenhagen area, in Denmark. It connects the city centre, the inner and the outer boroughs and suburbs with each other. (With exception of Amager Island) The average distance between stations is 2.0 km, shorter in the city core and inner boroughs, longer at the end of lines that serves suburbs. Of the 85 stations, 32 are located within the central ticket fare zones 1 and 2.

It is the train system with the highest maximum theoretic capacity, since all platforms can accommodate double train sets, they can run 90 seconds a part, and each train set can hold a loooooot of passengers!

It's funny how Danish people are so grown onto the S train system. Even when they're in other cities with subways they still refer to the subways as S trains (probably because that's what they've grown to call a subway or Metro. After all it has been Denmarks only subway like system for decades)

@MrReliable 10 I think he's saying that because S-Trains came decades before Metro. S-Train began operation in 1934, whereas Copenhagen Metro began operation in 2002

There's only one underground s-train station, so why would they call it a metro?

@@epender Because for almost 70s years, the S train was the only urban rapid transit system in all of Denmark. So when Danes would take a comparable thing in a city abroad like New York, Paris, or London, they'd refer to the subway, metro, or underground as "The S train" since that'd what they're familiar with. I still hear it frequently from Danes nowadays, even 21 years after the Copenhagen Metro opened. To Danes, the S train is basically their norm, their closest point of reference.

Absolutely hate the horrible disgusting graffiti’s that completely ruins the look of these trains. Sure they are not pretty trains to start with but those graffiti’s make them even worse!
