This is not a competition between the two. I know they are not identical. This is just showing the features of the two and some basic information. Don't start flaming over "this is not a fair comparison" . I am just showing off the two. Enjoy the beauty of two great revolvers.

I think the 627 is the BEST revolver you can own. 8 rounds of .357 or .38 special. My Performance Center model came with beautiful wood grips. I LOVE it!

N-frame Smith and Wesson handguns in .357 are nothing new. The company came out with the Registered Magnum in the mid nineteen thirties. Later, this revolver became known as the model 27. It has a long history, and from the 27 evolved the 627, which originally featured a six-shot cylinder. The .44 magnum cartridge was developed in the mid-fifties. All that being said, your 627 is great, and it's one of the many guns on my not-so-short short list. You have good taste.

As others have stated S&W has produced many calibers on the "N" frame. Some of the first "N" frame guns were .357 caliber produced in the 1930s. These were 6 shot revolvers. Later model 24s were produced in .44 spl. which became the basis for Elmer Keith's experiments which lead to the .44 magnum. S&W "N" frames have also been available in .45LC (model 25-5) as well as .45ACP (model 25). I might also note that the "L" frame 686 is available in a plus model that has a 7 round cylinder as well as a 5 shot .44 magnum (model 69).

owned the ruger gp wiley for about 6 months now. Very accurate gun. put full house .357 loads through it, and I'm hitting point of aim at 30 yards. don't let the short barrel fool you, its just as accurate as my gp 100 6 inch at 30 yards.

Revolvers are the gun. A damn automatic pistol has a lot of shit to go wrong. Then they end up buying all those expensive magazines. I like the eight shot and the seven shot for conceal and carry.

The difference between the Smith and Wesson Fram sizes is in the sustained types of full power ammo you intend to use. With modern metallurgy, the RUGER can fire the high-power/ high-pressure heavy grain .357. However, if the shooter conducted sustained use of such ammunition with the RUGER, as shown, there would be significant damage to the cylinders. In any case, the user would experience sticky cases of recently fired brass. Smith and Wesson anticipated that the 627 would be used for the latter ammunition, as the N frame 627 metallurgy is rated for hard use .44 Magnum and the .357 cylinders, have been recessed for high pressure expansion. If the user wants to use the heavy grain-high pressure .357 they need to get a RUGER Redhawk. Comparing the 627 to the GP100 is an apples to oranges comparison

Great and fun video. I don't know about people thinking that the Smith will out last the GP. I have about a dozen revolvers - 90% being 38/357. And while I don't have a 627; I do have a GP, a Python, a 686 CS-1 and others. That GP is built to last - beat your attacker over the head with it after it's empty! FYI - none of mine have ever failed. Even the 50 year old ones!

Ruger fan since I was a boy and love that TALO GP100 so much, I just bought one myself...seriously your other video featuring just the Ruger pushed me over the edge. Oh, the other difference between a standard 3" GP100 other than what was mentioned are the reduced radius flutes on the cylinder. I used to be a bit of 686 guy and still love S&Ws, but I just can't warm up to the HUGE gap between the cylinder and the front of the frame and the barrel taper. Nice gun, just not for me...

Smith and Wesson has chambered several different rounds in the N-Frame. The 41 Magnum versions are model 57's in blued steel and 657 in Stainless. The 610 was a 6 shot 10mm Auto Stainless revolver. The 625 has been chambered alternately in 45 Colt and 45 ACP identified by different dash numbers such as 625-5 or 625-8, The N Frame was the original home for the 357 Magnum. Those were the registered magnums. They became the model 27 and 28 when Smith switched to Model numbering in the 1950's. and yes they were only 6 shot then. I don't criticize anyone's videos. I don't enjoy public speaking so I don't make videos. I just thought I would pass on some knowledge.

The Ruger seemed to lose about 1/3rd of its trigger pull weight during its break in period which put it about equal with the Smith, however you stated you've only owned the Smith about a week. So something to consider is maybe the Smith will loosen up a bit more after its break in period as well. Just food for thought

it feels the same cocking the hammer on a 6 shot N frame despite the longer distances between chamber holes. S&W just always finds a way to shorten their action vs Ruger revolvers. same as my 60 vs sp101

You didn't mention on the Wiley that the front portion of the cylinder is reduced down in diameter and the leading edges on the frame edges have been rounded, (smoothed down) as well. Makes for better carry characteristics and no "hard" edges.

Since the metal between the S&W cylinder bores are thinner than the Ruger, does that mean the Ruger will be able to handle full house .357 Magnum loads better? What about heat dissipation? Wouldn't the S&W heat up alot faster? I'm looking for one that will stand the test of time with some powerful loads.
