Snubbies are so easy to carry and very useful for close range entanglements.

Nice review! S&W 642 is a great choice for concealed carry. Lite weight and very reliable. For ppl, that only intend to own one gun for defensive purposes, I would easily recommend the 642.

The lightweight revolvers are a good example of the phrase, “less is more.” A person is more likely to carry it due to being more comfortable and more concealable than the average compact/sub-compact auto-pistol. I have a Kel-Tec P3AT that is lighter and smaller than a J-frame, but isn’t as easy to handle due to its small grip. Looking to obtain a 642/442 to fix that. Great video.

Excellent video, a .38 snubnose is the gun I grew up shooting in the River Quay as a kid, today I carry a 442 with a crimson trace laser grip and stoked with underwood ammo, hard to beat.

For civilians it’s an easy carry and in close encounters it’s point and shoot…or don’t shoot. But if your survival genes automatically cause you to pull it…most likely you will shoot…for better or worse. Even if you miss five times, the flashes and bangs are pretty scary. At which point the snubby becomes a one pound club.

I'm 6 months in owning my 643PC and EDC, I have replaced the OEM wood & rudder grips for the same reason you pointed out, kinda sticky for pocket carry. I went with Altamont Walnut. I find 148 grain copper coated Wadcutters. I also carry 110 grain Hornady Critical Defense FTX for EDC.

Honestly, you need to practice a lot with it and only use it at close range! My personal mantra while shooting it is “Dog House”. That is what I say to myself while shooting it, because my front sight on my 442 has to be buried in the middle of the rear sight window and centered on the dark blur, in order to hit consistently with it. I like revolvers, because that is what we were issued when I was a Marine Security Guard at several U.S. Embassies back in the mid 1980s during my career with the Corps. At 63 years old now, I find it easier to carry on my person than many of the semi-autos I own. My hips aren’t what they use to be anymore! Even in the Corps, we were required to do familiarization fire (fam fire) while we were on the duty. The State Department were pretty good at finding the time, place, and ammo for us to practice. I guess they felt safer at the embassy’s that way!😂 But you have to practice with them like any firearm.😊

Just got this air-weight revolver for my wife. Great little gun for the women and fits in the purse well for those with a CWP. Also good for home defense for homes with tight quarters as the attacker would most always be in close range anyway.

First up... Great video. Simplicity and function goes a long way. Don't want to shoot it? Don't pull the trigger. I think this little revolver is a fine critical defense carry gun. In most situations it's up close and personal and it's the first couple of rounds that count. To many hung up on capacity. If you think you're gonna be attacked by a rifle squad maybe go with that auto. For the ATM I'll stick with the 642 snubby. Love mine.
@rustyhook67235 ай бұрын
Great content as always. I traded my 642 in for a Bodyguard.38 several years ago with the crimson trace. I like the smaller grip for cc and the ambidextrous cylinder release makes the speed loader easier to use. And yes something that’s often overlooked is the grips do tend to snag on the 642 when used with a pocket holster.
@artfulalias39842 жыл бұрын
Nice review. An air weight 38 snub made sense as a back up. Everything about them is compromised to fulfill that role. Whereas J frames in 22 or 32 with 3 or 4 inch barrels are a joy to shoot.

My 442 is my CCW of choice. Have a S&W 3913 as well but the 442 tends to want to go with me anywhere I’m headed. Strictly a get off me revolver. However these days thieves seem to work in group's so I may have to reconsider my carry options soon.

A custom Tanarmi TA90 comp-gun (my IPSC pistol was the only service-caliber gun I had at first) with an Erma .22 PPK as a back-up (again, it's what I had.) When they made me switch it was a S&W Model 28 and I changed my back-up to a custom S&W Model 36 after it was pointed out that in an emergency I could hand the snubby to any other cop and they'd know how it worked.

Am I the *ONLY* person on the planet that really likes, and prefers the old-school, wooden, round butt grips especially for pocket carry? Seriously, I always hear them complain about the very old wooden grips I love! :)
@tinkertalksguns72896 ай бұрын
For mw it's a function of hand size. My hands are so big that operating the gun is difficult with stock grips. I love the look of the classic grips, they just don't work for me.

I wonder if a strip of Talon Grip rubberized material would slightly pad the back of the grip frame.
@jimmeli52005 ай бұрын
I put a Pachmyr "Guardian Grip" on mine. It has a spring loaded pinkie extension that stays recessed until you grip the revolver. I added talon tape to the front and back strap. This set up keeps it easy to conceal, gives me a full grip, and keeps the revolver planted firmly with +P loads. My accuracy on follow up shots greatly improved.

Great information. My EDC is a Glock23, has been so since 1990 and can't think of a single reason for it to change and to this day. Now, EDC-backup for me have evolved some over time: From Glock27 in an ankle holster, to pocket pistols like a: Seecamp LWS32, to a Glock 42, to my currently one a S&W642 ProSeries (no Hilary lock) that I think brings some great functionality to the table not available in any pocket size semiautomatic. So yeah... I love my 642, and probably just as much as my Glock23 to be very frank about it. They both complement it other, brilliantly.
