I think one of the problems I have with this show is the fact that they fire so many rounds and no one ever gets shot. Don’t we look back and laugh at “The A-Team” for this very reason? There are more but that’s a big one.

firing a whole mag and hitting everything but the target is pretty common. These are panicking guys with families, under fire, shooting at stuff they can't clearly see. There's a lot of ridiculous stuff in S.W.A.T but this is kinda fine. Main thing I would've changed is one of the cops taking shrapnel from all that wood splintering. Makes for decent drama without having to explain why the character is fine in the next episode

The main problem I have with that shooting thing is that they're hiding behind hollow wooden furniture, behind drywall or behind cars, not the wheels or the engine block which can actually stop a bullet but behind the trunk or the main part of the car, the suspects are shooting into it and the SWAT team somehow doesn't end up with gun shot wounds

Yes. SWAT used the Kimber TLE/RL II as their sidearm in the first three seasons. Most of the main characters switched to the Taran Tactical modified STI 2011 9mms. Older characters like Hicks and Mumford still use the Kimber.
