There were 4 pieces of chanting, most describes the power of the king. The song you hear is a type of poetry called Kap He Ruea. This composition is used to sing while rowing the royal boats in order to control the rhythm of the rowing. The composition of Kap He Ruea generally consists of 4 verses: a verse to honor the King, a verse to tell the story (which describes the reason for holding the royal ceremony), a verse to praise the boat, and a verse to praise the city.

The rowing position you saw was called Nok Bin. This type of rowing position is only used for royal barges. The rowers must row in this position throughout. If they want to change the rowing position, they must receive permission from the King.

There were 4 royal barges in this ceremony: Ananta Nakarat Royal Barge (used for carrying Kathin robes or important Buddha images), Suphannahong Royal Barge (used as a barge for the king and queen), Anekatachat Phuchong Royal Barge (used as a barge for the royal family), and Narai Song Suban Royal Barge (currently not in use because it was built to commemorate King Rama IX).
