飼育員さんが来てくれたら元気100倍 レッサーパンダの赤ちゃん”コキン”

Red Panda Baby (female) at Kushiro City Zoo in Hokkaido ,Japan.
The keeper is raising a baby ,
Because her mother "Kin" died after giving birth .
釧路市動物園のレッサーパンダの赤ちゃんコキン(メス)の一般公開初日の様子。
この展示場に来るのも、まだ回数浅く、
10時05分に登場した後、間もなく、奥の方で丸くなってしまいました。
10時30分頃、展示場内に、育ての親である飼育員さんが、
傍に来てくれました。
赤ちゃんは、安心したのか、
動きが活発になってきました。
遊具での遊びも、ジャンプしたり、橋を渡ったり、
飼育員さんに噛み付いたり、アタックしたり、
時間が経つにつれ、ヒートアップしていきました。
40分程したところで、
飼育員さんが、他の動物たちへのお世話に向かいます。
信頼している飼育員さんの姿が見えなくなり、
寂しそうにも見えましたが、
少し落ち着いたのかな？と思いました。
これから、少しずつ、この環境に慣れていってくれればなあと思います。
ラストは、隣に暮らしている、お父さんのシンゲンです。
2017年6月28日(水)に生まれた赤ちゃんの
父はシンゲン、母はキン。
キンは、8月17日(木)に腸閉塞のため、急逝。
それ以後は、飼育員さんによる人工哺育で、順調に生育。
10月14日(土)より、限定公開が始まりました。
14日、17日、20日、23日、26日、29日・・と当面2日おきの公開。
時間も、10時~13時までの3時間のみです。

So happy to see this video again after several years. Kokin now lives as a young adult in Yokohama Sea Paradise aquarium ( yes, an aquarium). I saw her there in October 2019. Looked healthy but in need of companions to play with. She was so bonded to humans having been orphaned as a baby. Today, it seems that she has a keeper who gives her the human touch she needs. Hope to see her soon when international travel restrictions are lifted.

Kin-chan's baby girl is so cute, active, and healthy (I hope)! She was with her mother for almost one and a half months before mother Kin suddenly died. Keeper is taking care of her now, but she needs to grow up with red pandas, maybe her papa Shingen who seems so lonely. Unless it's a safety issue, the baby should be with Shingen. They both need each other.

Thank you Mmovies21 for the video, but I find it very sad that Kin's baby is stuck in a small concrete cage, without natural greenery such as shrubs. She's not being raised to be a house pet, but a red panda. Where is another red panda such as her father Shingen? Mmovies please show video of Shingen too.

Thank you very much "Y" for your reply to my comments. I suspected that Kushiro Zoo is isolated and lacks the resources necessary to provide quality care for its red pandas and other animals. What can the public do to help Kin-chan's baby and poor lonely Shingen (a gentle rp) and separate aggressive Koai from them? What are the options available to rescue the baby before she is unable to live with other red pandas in the future? What can the public do to help Kushiro Zoo improve or to close for the sake of the welfare of its animals? Not every municipality has to have a zoo: it's okubari (greedy) to want a zoo on top of the other natural attractions (example: its wetlands) for which Kushiro is famous. The zoo only sullies Kushiro's reputation.

Thank you again "Y". I didn't know that Sapporo and Kushiro were so distant from each other. So, I really appreciate Mmovies for making the great effort to go there to videotape. It'll get more difficult in the winter. Is there anyone who lives in Kushiro who can help watch what happens to the red pandas, esp. Kin's baby, in the winter months and report to us with photos, etc.? Are there any private red panda or zoo clubs in Hokkaido or in Japan that are concerned with the welfare of zoo animals? Your replies have been very helpful.

Again, many thanks for your thoughtful and thorough follow-up comments. I;m so glad to hear that she is not in that concrete cage for more than a 2 hrs x 3 days/week. However, that, to me, seems very long in the freezing Hokkaido winters, but the keepers better know what's safe for baby. And, thank you for mentioning the newspaper interview w/the keepers who are also very concerned but left with very few good options. I do not read Japanese so I miss things in comments written in Japanese. Is there a public appeal for financial contributions to upgrade the zoo? Why isn't the national government providing more financial aid if they can afford to give billions of yen for "foreign aid"? What about the billionaire private and developers? Upgrading the zoo costs a fraction of a super urban skycraper, luxury buildings, casinos, Olympic sports venues, etc. Maybe if the billionaire gets naming rights and the publicity that goes with it, they might give it serious consideration. Any billionaires in Kushiro or in Hokkaido? In the meantime, let us pray for the baby's mental and physical health at least through this winter and pray that better news will come in the spring. I have occasionally visited my relatives in Japan and hope that next time I can go to Kushiro to visit the red pandas.
