Great discussion, guys. Having surf fished for over 50 years, my only comment to this conversation is when there is fire in the water, typically during new moons, you would set off that phosphorus with jerks. I think super slow with no jerks can be more effective. Not always, but often.

Only time is when I'm hoofing down the Backside blind casting looking for hits while looking for structure...can't really add nuance when on the move

How does Toby rig a needlefish to swim? Just a belly hook and a flag?

It depends on the needle in question and the exact action I am looking to achieve. All my plugs only have the single belly hook and no hook on the back, from there I have a variety of flag and 'other' options that get used. - Toby
