Thank you so much. I was stranded on the side of the road with a blown oil line and was able to fix this and save my vehicle but some basic tools I had in my blazer. The separating that adapter with the Allen head really saved my ass. Thank you so much brother

Deleted mine in my 02' Blazer Zr2. No more leaking lines & oil spraying everywhere. My Oil Pressure gained also! No difference in normal operation Temp, even when pulling my trailer or under a heavy load. I did try a 180° thermostat but that set off a Check Engine Code, "Coolant Temp Below Threshold"- so the 195° went back in & no issues. You have to use a little oil filter & you can reach it to replace or install with a small 3/8" drive metal oil filter removal bowl socket thingy for oil filters & a long extension

Appreciate the info on the thermostat. 200° it's where it runs on the according to the dash I was thinking it could be cooler they gave me 200 to put back in it but I haven't done it yet I living in Texas I wanted to be as cool as you can be tripping the sensors it'd be nice to get more than 14 miles to the gallon difference

I’m not sure where you live, but I am in Minnesota. In the winter the oil becomes super thick when it is -30 outside. I am deleting my cooler on my zr2 blazer as well, but what you forgot is that you no longer have an oil filter bypass valve if the oil is too thick or the filter clogs. It would be better to buy the $5 adapter of off summit that includes the bypass valve. But great video! Good luck!

There should be one in your oiling system already on your Zr2 that you can unbolt and remount just onto the engine, but then you have to run a short oil filter. I actually found out that 1992-1996 Lt1's sometimes came with an oil filter adapter that moves the filter in towards the pan so that you can run the stock filter without hitting the front driveshaft or differential. I should be getting mine in the mail sometime this week, I found a guy on a facebook forum for LT1 engines in Texas. Hopefully he follows through. GM part number 10168497. Good luck SIKZR2. The oil cooler lines are one of the biggest weak points on a stock Zr2.

Is this a 4.3? I have a 2.8V6 with a 5 speed and it’s a little more tucked in on the side of the block. I just bought the truck and the previous owner told me that it need the oil housing gasket. I have it and I’m thinking about doing it but don’t really see any oil leaking and I’m not sure if it has cooler lines on it. So I might just change the oil and call it a day.

RobHoffmann20 Thanks for the reply. I skipped it because I didn’t see any saturation by the gasket and I think I would’ve had to lift up the engine or something because the bolt that holds it sits up against a motor mount. There was no clearance to get anything in there, let alone taking out all the way.

I had a similar issue when my oil pickup in the pan had fallen off the pump. also oil is typically thinner when it's warming up. the initial start should show the most oil pressure as its cold.

Good video with great narration! I can't stand when there is stupid music or pictures. However, removal and replacement of this assembly is very easy, and not to mention it's quite cheap. There are updated cooler line's which aren't prone to leaking. The oil cooling has a ton of pro's and zero con's. Also, I don't know why you have an MSD ignition system on any modern GM that isn't crazy modified (in the case of the 4.3L say a turbo with a marine MPFI intake). The stock HEI system is far more superior to any aftermarket system. Multiple tests and dyno run's have tested the theory on GM 4.3's and 5.7's and there was no gain.
@RobHoffmann20
@RobHoffmann20 6 жыл бұрын
walter white Thanks for the feedback and comments, I did not know there were replacement oil cooler lines avaiable. Also regarding the MSD, originally I had issues with ignition on the truck as well as power losses, it stemmed back to the ignition system as a whole. Replacing the coil and installing the control box provided a more reliable idle and smoother operation. The distributor began to fail and after that it was replaced with a new MSD model which now has removed any play within the original. I'm not going to argue the O.E. GM equipment wasn't better than current however for me having a failing system this was an upgrade.
@TheWalterHWhite
@TheWalterHWhite 6 жыл бұрын
I will admit, I myself have had run in's with the distrubtor systems on vortec engines. When working properly, it's very reliable and powerful. However, when it's acting up it can throw you for a loop. One reason I'm going LS : p

Seems awfully easy fix, to increase oil pressure. My 4 wheel pressure drops to near zero when idling, otherwise runs about 40, is the oil cooler removal just as simple? Is it not necessary to plug the radiator take offs?Would I need the adapter for the filter, since it is a 4X?
@RobHoffmann20
@RobHoffmann20 5 жыл бұрын
Im not familiar with the process on a 4wd truck however i can't see this increasing oil pressure unless the cooler is plugged up. Plugging the unused oil cooler ports is not necessary. Do I need to plug the holes where it connects to the radiator? I'm trying this right now.
@RobHoffmann20
@RobHoffmann20 3 жыл бұрын
That's not necessary, the oil cooler portion of your radiator is a closed loop meaning it's totally isolated on its own. once you disconnect the lines and whatever residual oil in that cooler drips out there won't be anything else in there. Unrelated to this video shortly after I replaced my radiator, when I ordered it I simply ordered one without the oil cooler so now I don't even have those ports available
