I test rode a 2023 S1000XR last week and although I liked the bike the seat vibrated any time I applied even the slightest amount of throttle. I am aware of owners of 2022 models have had the glass fall out of the mirrors due to vibrations. Crazy to think this bike has been out since 2015 and BMW engineers still can’t come up with a solution to stop it vibrating.

I didn't find the vibrations bothersome at all for the 45k or so miles I did on mine. Some people just seem more vibration sensitive than others.

@@t3h8ar0n I think some XR’s vibrate more than others. After I test rode the buzzing 2023 model and went for a ride on a 2020 model with an aftermarket seat and it had zero vibrations. I am still interested in buying one but think it would get tiresome riding a bike all day with a buzzing seat.

Did BMW do this retrofit for free? Any updates on loose bar problem?

I just had mine done but cannot feel to much improvement, not more than I got with the heavy end bars. I put back the original end bars but I feel more or less same level of vibrations. For the moment handlebar is ok, stiff, with no instability but will see what's happening. I'll try to test the new 2017 XR to see if there is any difference.

How do you tell these are updated part numbers? I looked up 2015 parts with the VIN and these are the part numbers they show. Unless they superceded the old part number it would seem this is the old design.

The old part numbers were superceded as far as I am aware - the original parts were flawed and were removed from production (that is what I was told by BMW at the time). Talk to your local BMW dealer to verify the correct parts for your bike.

@@t3h8ar0n yeah, they can't tell me if the parts have been replaced, they claim they can't see the old part numbers in the event these are superseded, and they act like they don't know what I'm talking about when I mention a campaign to replace parts.

@@joshbeverly What? It was pretty well known that they had a vibration retrofit kit for bikes that were built before they came with those newer parts from the factory, and it was also well known that the initial batch of parts were out of spec and caused the wobble present in this video... idk what they are talking about lol.

It may be tribal knowledge that was lost over time. They always like to tell me this is an old bike. That's why I was asking if there's like a TSB or recall campaign. Some document number I could point them to.

@@joshbeverly Not that I am aware of. It wasn't a safety issue on the original bikes... some people just thought it vibrated too much... so BMW revised the parts, and the first revised parts were out of spec (like the ones I initially received). Here is an old forum post discussing it. www.s1000xr.uk/index.php?topic=934.0

tehBarOn - In your comments you have an "UPDATE" listed. Are you saying the problem with the Retrofit was fixed by using the original OE washers and nuts?

Thanks for the clarification. So the softer retrofit rubber parts that you used to replace the original parts have now been updated with a new retrofit rubber part. I just looked it up in parts catalog and saw the new part number superseding the old one.

I have the 2017 and I still find a vibe at 4500rpm-5500rpm. Now I've never ridden the 2016 model so I have no comparison. My hand still goes to sleep and only my throttle hand. Did the bar ends help out a lot? Would you recommend them?

I also have the 2017. Evoteck bar ends make a big difference. I can say that the vibratiıns are %90 gone. There are still a little vibration but this is a bike afterall.

Did they fix this problem? Did you have to pay for it?
@t3h8ar0n
@t3h8ar0n 6 ай бұрын
That was fixed long ago under warranty yes. I was one of the first people to receive this "vibration retrofit kit" from BMW for that generation of s1000xr. The bolts/spacer they had provided were undersized, and this caused the wobble you see in the video. I (and I am assuming others) reported the issue, and BMW revised the part to eliminate the slop. If you order a vibration retrofit kit that was made after mid 2016, it should be the correct hardware.
