I listened back to that last part and I don't really understand why they disagreed with each other. Thorin just thinks a big name shouldn't have to start over completely from the beginning of the qualifiers, which I think is logical to a point. Kassad is of course completely correct as it stands right now the way they did it Magisk and the boys have made their own bed and have to lie in it.

Thorin nails it with the G2 example, because Kassas is essentialy lying there. No way NiKo or m0nesy are both 20% worth each on that team. That would mean they are worth the same as nexa or hooxi. Which is mad. Cant believe NiKo's biggest fan just said that. There is even a parento principle which applies here aswell.

There is no objective way to quantify a player's value to their team, so how could that feasibly be used to determine invites to later stages? To me you either need to have equal weighting of players, or no core-based invites at all.

I would prefer NAVI to figure it out with both s1mple and w0nderful. They are one of the best teams with ZERO trophy potential because the rifle core just isn't good enough, especially in 2024. Switching the awper around does nothing for them. They need exceptionally good decisionmakers like what Faze is chock full of... Time will tell what moves they make but if its only kicking wonderful for s1mple then the team is going nowhere and might even end up regressing. Are we also ignoring all the negative intangibles s1mple brings to the team with his vibe? Dude NEEDS to be a 1.4+ rating hard carry player in every game to make worth it for the team to put up with him, as he makes some of his teammates actively worse with his behaviour towards them during the game.

The 'Legends' stage of the major had problems but it got us what we want like, 7/8 of the time with an occasional team like QBF slipping through. What we have now is is like some kind of wild west where past accomplishments don't matter at all.

Thorin would say no, because Dupreeh was the worst player on Vitality and therefore is worth like 10% of the victory or something. Personally I have no idea how you would enforce something like this though, you'd have some teams that are approximately 20% per player, whereas others are like 40 20 15 15 10 like old Navi with s1mple. Also, the real counterpoint to what Thorin says is if Niko, S1mple, karrigan, Magisk and device made a team right before the roster locks, how would they be allowed to join the RMR when there's no proof this team will be good, considering they're all from different teams.

LoL that argument at the end was weird. Thorin had a point until he started arguing against the need to have an established core and then it become untenable for Kassad or anyone to agree. So the point that made sense was that there should be an open qualifier only for non-established teams and then they can go into expanded closed qualifier against established teams, minus the teams that are invited to the final closed qualifiers (8 teams per) and the RMR (8 previous playoff teams). But you have to have a way to decide what is an established team and the only way that makes sense is using a team based ranking and/or a player based (3 man core) ranking. (ESL mixes the two together, that is how ENCE and Falcons qualified for Kato and liquid did not however Falcons would not have without the ENCE core) Until the ENCE core jumped on board Falcons was a backwater team and Magisk joining them just made them a backwater team with Magisk. They were ranked alongside ESL Impact and academy teams, so if we give them a closed qualifier we'd have to give those teams one too.

He didn't say it should have been a closed qualifier slot, but just not the bottom of the the open qualifier. And yes this extentends to the all the ESL impact and academy teams. But for sure it will require some work to run multiple stages for many more days, instead of just a huge singular bracket that due to amount of games at the same time also seemed to cause the admin problems Kassad alluded to, so it would fix both problems.

I don't understand the "Falcons will win a tournament in 6 months" take. There are 6 S Tier tournaments in the next 6 months: PGL Copenhagen (missed) IEM Chengu (missed) EPL 19 IEM Dallas Blast Spring Final (likely to miss) IEM Cologne. Falcons have THREE chances to win a tournament in 6 months.

The only other events are a CCT online finals (not going to be counted even in the unlikely event falcons attend) and Yalla Compass which is a smaller event but organized by the UAE so Falcons could attend, but again, small tournament.

No front at all, but Kassad should really learn when his takes aged badly. NiKo staying in G2 is the reason that his career is somewhat presentable - winning two prestige-events really does a lot for him. "Bigger picture" is an extremely whack argument for abandoning that. There is no guarantee that NiKo just wins everything elsewhere. Just take the L sometimes.

Team accomplishments aren't a factor? You try talking to Michael Jordan or Tom Brady? They're clearly a factor. Meanwhile you give the default win to S1mple who played on the better teams and for far longer than zywoo. Simple literally has twice the amount of Major attempts and LAN attempts, but zywoo caught him in both. The only knock on zywoo is no cologne/major, but since simple has an additional like 6 attempts at each of those events, I'm not sure that is solid ground to stand on.
