S2:E12 Pompeii: Amazing Discoveries Under the Ash

In the 12th episode of our European Cruise as we make our second visit into Italy. First we dock in Naples where we are swarmed by cab drivers, and we demonstrate how to negotiate for a taxi in Italy. Then, as we check off our bucket list of "must-see" sites in Italy, we travel down to Pompeii. The city was destroyed by the volcanic eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79AD and covered completely in ash. The entire population of 20,000 people were killed. The Forum, temples, baths, restaurants, shops, theaters, arenas and private residences are surprisingly well preserved. The Fresco paintings have retained much of their colors and beauty. We are able to see representations of the last inhabitants in ash lying in the positions they were in at the time of their deaths. The artistry in the paintings and sculptures as well as the incredible architecture and design are what makes Pompeii on of the most incredible and amazing places in Italy and Europe.
After we leave Pompeii, we return to Napoli where we have a fantastic meal in the birthplace of the pizza. We then stroll through the streets passing fountains, castles, markets and more. After that we return to the Norwegian Dawn Cruise Ship to continue south to Sicily.
