Hey Mark. The one thing that is pretty much generic with most canoes is the high sides which make a great gear hauler for camping and exploring but if your using it to fish especially in a open area with not much shore cover the wind will be a factor with the high sides on the gunnels. Same as when we sit high in our kayaks with all our gear in the rear end. Though the gunnels aw low we act as sails to the wind. It’s a matter that there really isn’t a perfect paddle craft out there that fits every situation and you are forced just to make a decision on what you can deal with and be comfortable out on the water. It’s really a nice canoe though and I like the lay out for rod holders an such. Great video. Thanks for sharing.

Great review as always Mark, I have an older version of that canoe and use a stakeout pole. I tend to use mine when I don’t want to haul out the Hobie Revo 11 as the canoe is at least 20lbs lighter. Tight lines and it’s great to see your son out with you enjoying this very special sport.

I have the Same Hybrid canoe, works great light and easy to carry Not perfect but works OK for the 6' 2" tall person, not the most stable when getting in so be ready easy to run around in calm water and low to moderate wind.

Add a anchor trolley, and move the anchor to the front. I do that and works well

Bluetooth controlled trolling motor is really worth its weight in gold. Canoes in the wind just get pushed you can try a solid rudder but then you have drag and extra weight.

Flounder they'r called flounder ....love the 119 solo...I want one.....my kayak doesn't have a "rudder" ..... dude is disqualified, he purposely drew close to reduce your paddling ability.....thanks for the vid bro

i have a Guide 119 . kinda similar but not exactly the same . my seat sits further back and i don't have all the fancy rigging or the foot braces but i love it just the same . i have done some tweaking to make it work for me .

Old Town is forcing the issue with this one and wanting to get into the hybrid market. It’s a nice canoe, but doesn’t have the gear space as a lot of other 12 footers on the market. Sure it’s a little lighter, so I guess that’s the trade off.

Mark so I’ve got a question for you man would be awesome to get a response. So I’ve been fishing the East beach lagoon for years and years ago there was many wade fisherman, kayakers there etc.. now nobody goes there, over the past year it has been a waste of a trip every time. I went one time when the water was clear and didn’t see a single fish. Also saw many ribbon fish dead on the banks. If you’re familiar with the lagoon do you think it could be fished out? It used to be amazing, I caught 8 slot reds back to back trout, flounder everything and now nothing. Thank you!!
