Ballade Sports Camshafts vs Stock Honda Camshafts. This took a lot of time and we have spent a couple years collecting data. We finally documented a back to back dyno test of our Ballade Sports Drop In camshafts over the stock OEM S2000 camshafts. The results are very nice! Please check it out on our video.

So, the engine making more power in the midrange makes the car slower? Gotcha! Just one question, what drugs are you two on?

I’m no expert but when they explained why they don’t lower vtec engagement and smooth the curve made no sense to me.

Please put a microfiber under the wires for the dyno sensors resting on the car. Probably not a huge deal, but it shows that you care and have attention to detail.

So with my ap1 my tuner has lowered VTEC to hit at 4k instead of 6k, not to make power earlier but to keep it more stable when racing. You don't want a big surge of power as your going through a turn.
@BalladeSports
@BalladeSports 4 жыл бұрын
Trust me we know everyone is going to debate weather or not you want to lower Vtec. Tune how ever you like your car to feel. We are simply showing the camshaft increase in horsepower without manipulating vtec.

Hey... I'm the ap1 owner. I had initially a tune that had vtec engagement lower and while it looked on the graph like I gained significant hp, real world performance was poor. Car definitely didn't feel stronger and the sensation of the vtec crossover went away. Now, with vtec engaging @ 6k it feels right and definitely definitely way more existing. The ballade cams brought back the low end hp and torque and I feel like I got to enjoy now both worlds. Just wanted to share. There's obviously no right or wrong, just more than one way to go about tuning.

@@SaimonZ69 Does your car sound louder/more aggressive at crossover with the cams?
@SaimonZ69
@SaimonZ69 4 жыл бұрын
@@chucks_garage987 no it's not. Keep in mind it's a drop in cams. There are more aggressive cams out there but those will come with a trade off of rough idle and will require at least valve springs and retainers that will make the cam mod more expensive and likely to give additional performance mainly on top. This was a step above stock with increased power and torque below and after vtec without sacrificing drivability.

It does sound faster. I can hear the motor chug, and the vtec engagement sounds smooth/crisp. Edit: is this with hfc or test pipe?

The problem involves the acceleration of the air flow on a vtec engine . Honda and Toyota tried to address that by putting two air inputs in the bumper . One input is closed at low and mid rpm to speed up the air flow and throttle response. You can do the same thing by not opening the throttle more then 1/2 way until after you pass 6k . By doing that the output of the engine will show no drop in power in the range before the cam change over . This trick was also done long ago on 4 barrel carburetors . Open just two for throttle response and all 4 for top end power . So what I am saying is the throttle body is to big for the engine set up for 0 to 6k and might be a tad to small for 6k and up but just a compromise you can help using your right foot .
@BalladeSports
@BalladeSports 7 ай бұрын
That’s real interesting, but how does this contribute to the video? You’re trying to say Vtec is a simple low speed throttle input until WOP becomes the Vtec correct? Our video is about the increase in cam profile and the performance benefits.

I am comparing your results to my stock cam between 5 and 6k when using a more appropriate throttle opening for that rpm range . Look up prelude stock intake horn to see the two air horns and valve that most people don't understand . For example the 2nd gen prelude with a 6300 red line had a 55mm throttle body so below 6k , 62mm is just to big !!!
@BalladeSports

We use a 69mm bore throttle body with bored intake manifold to port match also 69mm bore. Note this car is not in a programmable ECU. Which we would yield much more results. What ecu are you on and what throttle body?

I'm no tuner so I'm not trying to discredit what you guys are saying about the engagement point, but I think you're leaving power on the table, especially with your cam profile. Your cam does seem to bump up the midrange nicely which will do well for daily driving and will certainly feel better. It's doing it because it flows more air of course. The fact that you're flowing more before VTEC means that your cams specifically would benefit from a lower point, even if you didn't touch the high lobe. You'll be flowing more once it cracks so the crack itself could be stronger. I generally disagree that the car feels slower with the lower engagement, but I'm basing that on the F22, maybe the F20 is different. Either way, well done, tough to make a drop in cam with no real compromises 👌🏽. From the tesla tech that spends too much money with y'all 😂
@importrule
@importrule 4 жыл бұрын
it's obvious you don't have a clear grasp of how VTEC works. the moment VTEC engages, you switch from the low lobe to high lobe. in other words, you can't lower VTEC engagement point and not touch the high lobe.

Vtec also works off oil pressure so making it hit sooner does actually hurt performance regardless off chart for those people thinking yall are on drugs lol love the company I have spent some money with you guys but not as much as I would like but maybe one day keep the info and products coming thanks guys
@TMRDAM
@TMRDAM 4 жыл бұрын
Keeping the VTEC engaged doesn't rub any more power from the oil pump. Actually the only effect it's a momentary loss of pressure and it's better for this to happen around 4k instead of around 6k rpm.

Why waste of money? Both cars already had every major bolt on you can have (headers, ported intake manifold and throttle body, advanced cam gear, cold intake, full exhaust with test pipe) and both were tuned on doctronics ecu management so the most NA power was already maximized on them and to get another peak 5whp and 9whp on midrange from just swapping cams (took Alex 20 minutes to do) is an achievement! It is very costly to extract hp from NA and for the result this one was a good bang for the buck IMHO.

@@SaimonZ69 its not worth the money cuz it's showing an improvement figure too low for a cam mod. A cam mod with all the bolts on you listed will / should & have been documented widely to register a figure between 225-240whp depending on the dyno type. A 200k mileage motor is not a problem as long as the CR is within the factory tolarence.
