Amazing attention to detail as we have seen all the way through this project. Sort of as expected but still rewarding to see in action. But that last piece really brings home quite WHY these old warbirds should be restored and flown. People from all over our Commonwealth (and elsewhere) died to keep us all free from tyranny and we must, we really must, remember them. And most importantly make future generations remember their sacrifices. And what better way than letting them see the aircraft with which those heroes fought and won. Superb project and well done.

OCD attention to detail and no compromise on quality or finish - the skill level is off-the-dial. The fenders are a masterpiece of engineering and aesthetic, form and function perfectly aligned - so satisfying to watch their creation, thanks for sharing.

Hi, I think the attention to detail in the fenders reflects your whole ethos towards the airworthy restoration of the aircraft which, will show what can be achieved by your dedicated team, long after you have all departed. Something for future generations, to not only see this piece of our history but, also the effort and dedication it takes to see this project through.

From a guy who recently bought a shiny new CNC router, just be aware there will be a learning curve! I bought my router because I couldn't afford to hire out the work I needed to do. But the more I get into it the more I realize the quote I got was pretty reasonable. I still can't afford to pay someone else to do it, but I understand why they charge what they do!

I'd be curious to know how the engines are cooled, the cylinder liners installed etc, I would assume there would be massive heat generation created from the combustion and that the liners would deform without proper support and wall thickness. Makes wonder how thick the walls are on a sabre and merlins big parts, blocks, cases etc.
@TyphoonLegacyCoLtd2 жыл бұрын
While I don't have a direct answer to those questions, this is one of the reasons that the sleeve metallurgy and production process was so critical for the Sabre. The Cylinder blocks were aluminum, and the steel sleeves were fitted inside the block bore, and then an aluminum piston inside the steel sleeve. The tolerances and processes for the Sabre were absolutely critical in keeping the engine running. ~Ian

Those cosmetic fender trims were constructed to only a slightly lower quality standard than the internals of the Merlin itself. As someone who failed "handwork" in primary school, I sometimes wonder what it must feel like to be incapable of shoddy workmanship. :-)*

oups! copper on aluminium good electrolysis recipe.
@TyphoonLegacyCoLtd2 жыл бұрын
No oops; while there is potential for an anodic reaction within the copper, it will be unlikely (minimal) given the environments that this engine will see use. Proper care and maintenance should be sufficient to keep this looking good for many years; after all the primary alloying element in 2024 (the most commonly used aircraft alloy) is copper. ~Ian

Hi. I am a founder member of the UK based Hawker Typhoon Preservation Group and we are well in to the restoration of Typhoon Mark 1B RB 396 back to flying condition. Until I spotted your KZbin videos I was completely unaware of your project! I am wondering whether or not there has been any dialogue or co-operation between yourselves and our Group (a charity)? It would seem to me eminently sensible that some degree of co-operation between our two organisations should be in place; we both have the same goal! Like our BBMF Avro Lancaster and your Canadian Lancaster I am sure there has been many positive exchanges to ensure that we keep these magnificent machines in the air, I hope so. When do you hope to have JP 843 back in the air?

P1LYP you know how you have to work Monday to Friday to afford to do the stuff you want to do on the weekend? Same principle applies here...sometimes you have to do things to pay the bills... The good news is that the Merlin is soooo close to being finished! Keep the faith!!

Of course I admire the work being done on the Merlin and the trailer, but let’s be honest, Merlin aircraft engines, while not a dime-a-dozen are not really that rare, are they. I will be looking forward to your return to work on the Typhoon, because let’s face it, that’s why you started this channel I presume. Hopefully you will be able to reveal all in the near future and give your loyal viewers an idea of what’s to come on the main attraction. Not to be negative, but I got a hint with your comments on this video that you might be thinking along the same lines. So, I sincerely hope I haven’t offended either you or the other viewers because that was not my intention in writing these comments.
