What a brilliant and thought provoking interview. As Paul Brophy wisely says, including the awareness of the fundamental importance of healthy food choices in the school curriculum from primary school level onwards is just a no-brainer! There has to be something radically wrong with our collective thought processes when we are prepared to happily pay three or four euros for a scoop or two of ice cream, for example, (I actually like ice cream myself!!) yet we would probably feel outraged to have to pay that amount for a head of broccoli, or a bag of carrots or a half dozen of free range eggs - just some examples of good nutritious food which is so essential for good health. It is simply mind boggling when one considers the enormous financial cost of maintaining our health services, a large proportion of which is undoubtedly the result of poor health choices by many of us and often, in particular, poor food choices. Good educational programmes in our schools are certainly key to raising awareness and to promoting a healthier future for generations to come. So refreshing to hear this eloquent and wise contribution on this really important matter from Paul Brophy and very well done to Mick Kelly and GIY.
